Well, couldn't figure out how to resolve this one now.  I'll put it on the back burner for another time.   ;)

General Support / Anyone using Jitsi?
« on: September 13, 2013, 12:32:57 PM »
Just wondering if anyone here is using Jitsi.  Also wondering if anyone has been able to get the notifications sounds to work for IM.  I've been searching and messing around with various builds of stable and latest builds of Jitsi and the notification sound, well sounds like a dog barking...  I though it might be a PulseAudio "thing", but I have tried it with a fresh, updated install of VSIDO.
Thanks.

Awesome VastOne!  Thank you.  Seems to be working really well, albeit a tad slower, but is seems quite nice. Things that I forgot about in  Gnome 3.8 are working,  like right-click on the desktop, background change.  Neat stuff.  I realize there is a lot of bloat here, but it is interesting to see the DE come together. I didn't know there is an experimental repo.

I'll have to investigate it .  Thanks again.

Dave

Thanks for the effort VastOne.  It is very much appreciated. :-)
I didn't try or think to try the experimental repo I just took The whole shebang from Synaptic.  Is it possible to reinstall gdm3 from the experimental repo?  I will check when I get home.

You should see when I down load Gnome.  Its like downloading another distro.  :D
Thanks again!

Hello folks.

In the process of trying to use vsido with gnome 3.8, I noticed that the lock screen (with the sliding curtain) was not functioning.  Instead I still have the original vsido login.

I looked in a number of places for clues:
Here:  http://askubuntu.com/questions/213763/how-to-enable-new-lock-screen-on-gnome-3-6
(Yes, I know Ubuntu isn't the best place for debian.)
I get this error:
[FAIL] Starting GNOME Display Manager: gdm3 failed!

and
Here: http://vsido.org/index.php/topic,221.msg2976.html#msg2976

and various other places.

I even tried checking and asking on the debian forum and got my "hand slapped".  :)

Any direction or suggestions would be great.  Obviously I'm missing something.
Thanks

BTW:  "VSIDO Gnome" looks really cool with the vsido theme and icons. and is very responsive and snappy!

I hope this works.
Pretty much stock setup with my own "FrankenConky"  There seem to be very few distros that have gnome 3 and Ubuntu Gnome isn't bad, but well it is Ubuntu...

Thanks VastOne.  I think I will keep things as they are.  Gnome adds a lot of stuff I don't care about (like games) but I might as well leave them. That may be another experimental install...later.   The download for gnome was about 600 MB and done via synaptic.   I chose to switch to GDM, but I do like LightDM much better.  The wireless superficially gave me a non-issue, but was resolved using this thread.

I've got two screenshots I would like to post, but really don't know how.

First off, I just want to say how really nice this distro is and I'm really impressed with its function and its polish.  The art work is really great!

Right now I'm using it as a base for gnome 3.8 (don't throw anything at me!  :) )

I was wondering.  If I wanted to "lighten it up" a bit, what would be the best way to remove some of the games and window managers.  Synaptic a good choice? Or would it be better to leave well enough alone.  Also, is it better when doing something like this to just remove things at the get go and then build up?  (i.e. add gnome 3).

Thanks Folks.

How To's / Re: How To - Setting up wireless with ceni
« on: August 19, 2013, 10:53:28 PM »
fairnet,

I haven't had to do this in a long time and I may be completely wrong, but it shouldn't hurt anything.

In the terminal, as root,  have you tried these 2 entries?
 iwconfig
 ifconfig wlan0 up

Then proceeded with Ceni?

Thanks folks!

BTW, nice avatar Cuttlefish!

Back in 2008 I started with linux and I was totally blown away with the concept of a live CD.  I wanted to join the antiX forum and asked my daughters what I should take as a user name.  Back then we used to go to a lot of aquariums and they were fascinated by cuttlefish (me too)...hence my avatar.

My daughters are 18 and 21 now.            ...Time flies.

Thanks VastOne.  Here it is:

Linux vsido 3.10-1-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.10.3-1 (2013-07-27) x86_64 GNU/Linux

I'm not sure that I grabbed the right one, but no worries.  I'm gonna ride this wave as long as I can!   8)
