Looks like all the Debian sources still have only the lightdm-gtk-greeter

FYI  The relevant gtk layout is in a glade file in the source code. I guess I'd have to rewrite the .glade and rebuild lightdm - not what I was anticipating!

Nah -  I've tried several WMs, and Openbox is by far my favourite. I can live without a little eye-candy for a while! (Though I do feel a bit smug thinking I may be the only OB user with per-desktop walls  )

That's the setup I used to have with my flubuntu installation, and a feature I miss with openbox on #!. I use a python script to set the bg for each desktop, but it isn't as smooth as fluxbox   I haven't bothered to set it up on this vsido yet, cos it's still in trial mode!

I've been through the buntu and arch wikis and the tweaks are very general. I'd like to get at the gtk code, which I believe is in a greeter.ui, as described here.
Maybe I'll have to investigate their forums

I was hoping to change the appearance of the lightdm login theme, and afaik the config should be in /usr/share/lightdm-gtk-greeter/greeter.ui. The only one I can find is at /lib/live/mount/rootfs/filesystem.squashfs/usr/share/lightdm-gtk-greeter/greeter.ui, which I'm guessing isn't the right one?

Any suggestions as to where the gtk config is kept?

I find the default theme quite ugly and was hoping to produce something a bit more like my simple SLiM theme:

Seems like a technique that can go places 

I find it buggy and often very slow - gegl not properly integrated I suppose. I'm only using it for .exr and 32bit - necessary for the smooth mesh displacement in the blender render above - but 2.8 is staying until 2.10 is eventually out

Thanks for the offer. I used to have to do it regularly pre-Statler, so I'll dig out my old how-to sometime. If it's still no go I'll post for help in the appropriate place. In the meantime VSIDO is running fine on my main machine, and my little lappy is running out of space so I'm not too bothered!

Wireless didn't work on my laptop (broadcom issues of course) so I couldn't install, and I haven't made the effort to rectify it yet. And there are some glitches with Blender, which I run as a standalone, not the (old!) version in the repos, so that may be a python thing?

And no - I don't suppose it does need to be "user-friendly" in the sense that a complete noob probably shouldn't be messing with experimental software The VSIDO user-base probably knows their way around a lot of the configuration , and anyway this is the place to ask I guess!

The VastOne was kind enough to ask to use a background image I made, so I thought I'd pop over here from crunchbang to see whatsappenin'. Download and install went well, and I've been playing with the distro for a few weeks - nice one. Not QUITE as user-friendly as #!, but then I didn't expect it to be

Glad to see familiar faces here, and the atmosphere is nice and friendly!
