I'd also support the ability to not create a swap partition as well as not having to install grub.

A bit of a tangent, but does anyone here have experience with the pf patchset?  How does it compare to the liquorix (zen) kernel?

Just installed it on my laptop, and I have to say, it's still the best Debian distribution around.  If it weren't for your work on this distro I would have abandoned debian all together.  VSIDO really makes a good compliment to Gentoo and Arch.

Well it seems like nothing has been done to fix this, I have no idea why Steam is incompatible with the official Nvidia drivers.

I'm just going by kernel.org, I don't think 3.8.6 is in any non-experimental repo anywhere.

Wow the official 3.8.x is updating quickly, looks like there is already a 3.8.6 kernel as of yesterday, I wonder how long it will take for the liquorix guys to pump out another update.

I was comparing the Debian Mainline kernel to this new Liqourix kernel and it appears that Liqourix uses about 40-50mb less RAM at idle, and also releases RAM better than the stock kernel after closing programs.

I don't know a whole lot about the internals of these kernels, but why does VSIDO, #!, etc. not come with the Liqourix kernel by default?

The CrunchBang guide is nearly the same, and again the same problem with the opengl i386 libraries stops my progress.  I've posted in the CrunchBang forums, if they figure out a solution I'll post it back here.

Do you know where this bug/issue should be reported?  This seems like it is a fairly significant problem.

I'm wondering if this is a Debian problem, or something unique to VSIDO.  Unfortunately I don't have much room or time to try other Debian distributions.

If anyone has had luck launching steam and games namely tf2 I'd very much appreciate some help.

I figured I would make a new thread considering the original problem was solved (by using smxi), and talking about steam just made the thread confusing for others.

I'm currently having problems getting steam to run, following this guide didn't work out as I run into a brick wall when trying to execute apt-get install libgl1-nvidia-glx:i386

It runs properly up until the end, where it then says that nvidia-installer-cleanup needs to run. If I do not run it, it says that there was an error in setting up nvidia-glx.  If I do run the installer-cleanup it then asks if I want to try and back up my xorg.conf, at this point the process hangs and I'm forced to kill the process. (I've waited for it to respond for over an hour at one point).

So far I have gotten steam to install by following this guide here.  But I still am getting the error "You are missing the following 32-bit libraries, and Steam may not run: libGL.so.1" and so steam will not launch.

I guess my main problem is that the nvidia-installer-cleanup is just not working for me.

EDIT: I guess that the problem is that I'm using the official drivers instead of the debian ones.  Not sure if it's worth it to downgrade.

Well I'm still getting the same problem when running nvidia-installer-cleanup, and steam refuses to launch due to unmet dependencies.  If any of you guys have gotten it to work please share what voodoo you used.

Yeah I saw that as well, my main hang up is apt-get install libgl1-nvidia-glx:i386
the last couple times I have tried to run this it would claim to install correctly up until it ran the nvidia-installer-cleanup which just stalled indefinitely.  Hence the dpkg problems.

I'm just relieved my video drivers are functioning properly again.  I've uninstalled steam completely, so hopefully I will be starting with a fairly clean slate when I figure out/someone tells me the right way to install it.
