For VSIDO, save it as /usr/local/bin/tint2launchers/tint2rcvsido

Here is the same thing but transparent (on black background) and with autohide

For VSIDO, save it as /usr/local/bin/tint2launchers/tint2rcvsido2

Then launch it as

tint2 -c /usr/local/bin/tint2launchers/tint2rcvsido2

You have any particular design specs you want incorporated -

Quickly hacked update of the tint2 I use for openbox - added a popup menu launcher using 9menu which is sort of limited; dmenu would be much better, but no time right now.

A dmenu launcher within tint2? Hey, I like that. I'll stole your idea. Sorry, buddy.

PS, dmenu extended, I guess...

Go for it. I don't have time to mess with it. 9menu is proving to be limited.

How are your gimp skills? PNG/JPEG files with text for your dmenu launchers should make it easy enough to recreate the aesthetic in lwfitz's screenshot.

Edit - dmenu is so much better than 9menu -

script should be usable from a tint2 launcher button - modify to suit your needs:

#!/bin/bash

# bash script by packrat - modified from something I found on some forum many moons ago, kudos to original author

The only thing I would want is if launchers are used, the same ones be applied as the default... those launchers and icons define VSIDO in some ways... I am also very cautious about adding or changing the icon theme.  It is a mass amount of work to get one right

You might need to tweak the 520 in this line

taskbar_padding = 520 0 10

to help centering the tasks... That is one weak area of tint2 in that it does not understand centering / left / right at specific levels such as taskbar systray etc

Right. and it's also part of Vsido's identity too. I like the app icons, though I don't like the icons in spacefm, I want them clearer. That's why I change them. But that's only me.

Sure. whenever I'm done with some tweaks I'm exploring now. I'll post about them soon.

I'm far from an expert with Gimp, but I love to manipulate images and icons for this kind of things.

PackRat

My mistake with the gimp comment. The tint2 launcher icons are set with one size variable and is made square; unfortunately, can't specify wxh for individual icons and make buttons.

Ah, now I've got you comment. I didn't understood so well what you meant about the icons. Sorry, English is not my mother language and sometimes i don't follow post so well.

So you suggestion was making icons associated to dmenu displaying text from Tint2. Yes, f¡xed size. But I'll try to find something to display dmenu nicely.

This is basically a 'steal' from the above config posted by VastOne.  I've added my own icons to the apps I use the most, as well as changed everything to the local user.  (When I log in as 'root' to the GUI, I like it to be blank on purpose.)  If anyone wants the icons I have them added to my LinuxLex-8 folder in ~/.icons.  To make it local, I just switched the paths to ~/.config/tint2.  I also changed the size of everything as I have a 1920x1080 resolution screen.  Also uncommented the "wm_menu = 1" so that I can 'right click' anywhere on the Tint2 and get the Fluxbox menu to open.

I still have some work to do on the 'taskbar' section, as the more apps that are opened, the smaller and closer together the icons get.  Just haven't gotten around to it yet...  (If someone gets around to it before me, please post the changes!)

Correct. Clicking the icon launches a dmenu script - I made one for some commonly used apps, then one that opens an instance of thunar -<some_folder> ; in my case the folder has symlinks for various partitions so it is a bit like the Places plugin.

A question for the tint2 gurus - can the launchers be set up to display text only - like the taskbar - so that the launcher buttons are not restricted to the application icons? The actual issue is the square dimensions of the launcher button.

A question for the tint2 gurus - can the launchers be set up to display text only - like the taskbar - so that the launcher buttons are not restricted to the application icons? The actual issue is the square dimensions of the launcher button.

I believe this can be done by simply changing "task_icon = 1" to "task_icon = 0" and then the next line should be "task_text = 1".  The 1 and 0 are boolean for yes and no.  1=yes, 0=no...

Like this;

#---------------------------------------------
# TASKS
#---------------------------------------------
urgent_nb_of_blink = 7
task_icon = 0
task_text = 1
task_centered = 1
task_width = 0
task_maximum_size = 30 32
task_padding = 2 3
task_background_id = 1
task_active_background_id = 1
task_urgent_background_id = 0
task_iconified_background_id = 0

Those settings are for the taskbar icons; the launcher is a different beast. I tried:

launcher_icon = 0
launcher_text =1

just to see if they were undocumented settings, but no effect. As far as I know, an <app>.desktop file can't be configured to show text - unless I make a bunch of icons with test instead of pictures.

switched things up and created a light colored panel; new menu - dmenu launched with submenus.
