[Solved] libgtk-3-bin (bug) 2.4 ->2.5

ozitraveller

Hi

I've been trying to update for the passed few days, libgtk-3-bin is listed as a critical bug, and trying to force it doesn't work.

Anyone know any more about it?

Cheers

:)

If you run "up" in a terninal it should give you the choice to install or not.

If you get an error with one of the repos, at the end [Y|n] n  <<-- say no and
immediately run "up" again.

Install it, I had the same thing, it's installed here and OK.

Always keep an eye on the bug reports when running SID.
You have to remember that SID is "unstable".. meaning it has the newest packages.
It does not happen often, but a faulty package can kill your system.

I have only seen such a failure in the last 2 years with a major package release, like the one I know refer to as Perl Jam is a great example

If I had waited a day or two for all the rest of the resources to catch up with the new Perl release, I would have been OK

Instead I got happy feet and let it install the day it was released and paid for it

Lesson learned?  If it is an update with wide ranging effect, like Perl, Xfce, Python etc .. Wait until you see all the dependencies match what you are uploading

I have not had any issues with SID at all.
I have just read a few instances where it has happened.

I also back up once a day.. right before my update.. just incase..  ;)

Whatever the problem was it seems to have gone away. I did an upgrade this morning, using smxi as usual, and all went without any any issues.

Thanks All.

I sometimes have problems with smxi doing the update.

Here's what I have gotten into the habit of doing, before using smxi:

  • backup
  • run "up" - until there are no errors
  • backup again (rsync) takes seconds
  • run smix - "no update"
  • backup again - or not depending on time
... seems to work well.

If I don't need to use smxi (update kernel or nvidia drivers) it's only the first three steps.

Thanks S11 that's good advice, I don't really need to smxi very time I do an update. ;)
