Lost top Gnome2 menu

Dodge Ram

I did a update yesterday and I lost my top Gnome2 menu. The only way I can shut the system down is ctrl alt delete. How can I logout in the terminal to get to the login screen? I have it set to auto login.  Later when I have time I am going to look in the add remove software to see if I can re-install the menu manager or re-install all of gnome2. I know if I press Alt F2 I get Run option, but, there is no log out option. Thanks, gotta go to bed.Maybe I should give up on Gnome and start using Xfce.

I seem to recall seeing the same issues on the #! forums ... Since I do not use or have gnome2 I am at a loss... You may want to check over there

Disclaimer: I don't currently run gnome, so cannot verify this.  But...

I believe the command to logoff via terminal is:
/usr/bin/gnome-session-save --kill

Hope that helps.   ;)

No that didn't work. No big deal. Thanks

Sorry to hear that.   I believe that command requires sudo, in case you didn't try it.

Here are other alternatives which also require sudo.

gnome-session-quit

jgnome-session-save --force-logout

And a few that should not.

kill -9 -1

dbus-send --session --type=method_call --print-reply --dest=org.gnome.SessionManager /org/gnome/SessionManager org.gnome.SessionManager.Logout uint32:1

Good luck.

Thanks anyway. I killed Gnome2. I am starting to use Xfce. Thanks
