Wireless Printer

Gordon

Hi folks
Still struggling with my printer and been doing loads of reading.
There in no wireless extension on enp2s15 and I have been trying to find out how to add one with no luck. my card is a Realtek RTL-8110SC/8169SC Gigabit Ethernet GA-MA69G-S3H.
The only thing I have managed to find so far is various people recommending removing the driver r6189 saying that it worked and it then appeared in " nmcli ".
My question Is that the best thing to do and if it doesn't work will I be able to reinstall it.
I have just updated to the latest kernel and done the latest update, read all the info and as usual have no idea what is being talked about  :D  :D
again help is required please and thank you
Cheers :D

QuoteThere in no wireless extension on enp2s15

The enp* is usually the hard wired interface not the wireless. What is the output of:

ip addr

that will list your network interfaces.  You should see the lo (loopback) enp2s15 for the wired, and the wireless - usually begins with "wl"

Also use:

lspci

to get a list of the network controllers.

Normally, if you uninstall a driver, you can reinstall it if needed. Especially if it's a debian package. If that is the fix for other users, it should work for you.

No wireless ethernet device listed. Are you sure you have one? You'll need to get the firmware for it before you can use it.

Don't worry about the lo - that's the loopback interface - virtual device on all linux machines.

Can you connect this printer via USB? At least get it working until you get the wireless figured out.

Hi PackRat,

Yes e printer itself works via usb  but not the scanner part which is one of the reasons I am trying to get it working wireless to see if it works then.
Ceni can,t find any wireless connection either.
is there some firmware that i need to download from the repositories ?
Cheers :D

You will need to know what brand your wireless card is before you get the firmware. There is nothing listed with those terminal commands. I assume you are not using wireless to connect to the internet.

Check your computer specs in the operator's manual or find the model online and read the specs there. Once you know the brand you can get the firmware package.

Hi PackRat,

At the moment my PC is hardwired to the router.
The system info says that my Ethernet controller is a
Realtek Semiconductor Co., LTD RTL-8110SC/8169SC Gigabit Ethernet (rev 10)
I assume that is what you mean

That ethernet controller is the one listed by the lspci command:

02:0f.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8110SC/8169SC Gigabit Ethernet (rev 10)

So that's your wired network.

In the documentation for your specs you see something like:

Wireless    Dell Wireless-N 1705 and Bluetooth 4.0

or something like this in your lspci -

01:00.0 Network controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8188CE 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter (rev 01)

If it's not in the specs for the computer, you probably don't have wireless. You would need to buy  a wireless network adapter of some sort.

Hi PackRat

Thanks for the clarification

As far as I  can see I'm going to have to  buy a wireless card as i can't find any mention of wireless in the online manual or for that matter Bluetooth but i have a Bluetooth adapter so that's working anyway
Cheers :D

You must delete the original driver. And install the new driver
