Greetings Gordon
download vsido fsa to MX live session persistent. need to install fsarchiver to mx live. Startup the live usb on the target machine.

on installation target drive a partition to hold the downloaded vsido fsa.
on installation target drive a partition for the vsido system will be installed by expanding the archive here. fsa on same drive in different partition. I do this following the How To link.

Thanks for the replys. Do I have to have the 2019 iso installed or will it run from the dvd. If i copy the fsarchive file to a usb will it work from there.

It will need to be on a bootable USB or DVD whichever you burn to.. The bigger question and what will make it much easier is if you have a Linux install on this machine right now. If you do and it uses grub, then you already have grub installed and you can simply use fsarchive from that distro (MX?) and install to a blank partition and then run grub-update and you can then boot to VSIDO

Let us know

Download the latest vsido (may2019) iso and the latest fsarchive vsido_15FEB2024.fsa.

You will be booting from the iso file as usual, but use fsarchiver to install vsido from the vsido_15FEB2024.fsa file - so copy the vsido_15FEB2024.fsa to a separate media. If you can't boot the vsido may2019 installation media, you should be able to use your MX installation media; it should have fsarchiver on it.

Once you have a bootable media and the fsarchive saved to some media, you can follow this How To -

VSIDO installation guide from fsarchive.

Read that installation guide all the way through first, then proceed with the installation.

I'm trying to get back onto VSIDO. At present I'm on MX I  and don't really like it. I only left because I couldn't get VSIDO to work on the 2019 version. Just been looking at the latest downloads and  I don't understand what's going on as there doesn't seem to be an iso only a list of files and I have no idea what to do with them.
how do I come back? please
don't forget I'm a bit of a numnut always asking stupid questions

cheers
Gordon  :)

Hello Gordon, it is good to see you again. I believe that every question has value and that we will do our best to help.

To get you started, the list of files to download now includes fsarchived files that now install VSIDO which is explained here regarding the return of VSIDO.

In this How To link you will find several methods explaining the VSIDO Installation Guide for the fsarchive version and files that you now see. Don't be alarmed at how much information is there, it is several methods to install it. One of them will work for you, and we will help you every step of the way if necessary. If you already have a linux distro installed and have grub running, it will definitely be easier.

Download the fsarchived files, choose the install method you are comfortable with and let's get you back.

Trying out kitra (kde app like gimp)

KDE6 just released; should hit the Void repos at the end of March. Might already be in Sid. Runs really smooth in Wayland and X11.
