I see that now; will need to keep that in mind.

And while putting VSIDO through it's paces, I noticed there is no webcam application installed by default. No issue, it's just an apt-get away to install the one I want; was just curious if that is by design. Webcam works out of the box.

The Voodoo is strong in this one.

^ That is some serious voodoo the developer of VSIDO must be using.... who needs firmware anyway?  ;D

No doubt a benefit of listening to Pink Floyd while rolling your own distro.

@lwfitz - thanks; and nice shot.

Fluxbox theming almost as addictive as conky tweaking.:

Needed a new light colored theme.

As written needs the agave font (monospaced programers font): https://bitbucket.org/agaric/agave; as usual no pixmaps.

I'll trade you; I'd like to try something with those glassy backgrounds you're using with conky. You have one with a 16:9 aspect ratio?

Feedback & Suggestions / Re: A little feedback

A quick question about forum behavior - not the people, the actual forum.

When I post, the forum kicks me out to the main page that lists all the threads, not back to thread I was posting in. Is this normal behavior, or are my settings a bit whacked?

I didn't see any forum settings options - but it was a quick look.

Those are nice. Is that course actually open to the public for fishing?

I haven't gone in a while, but my oldest is starting to bring it up.

Good to see another cyclist around here.

I've gotten away from it in the last few years, but now that I have gotten my oldest off training wheels I have started to get some semi-regular riding in. Knees complain about it a lot more than I remember. Probably the result of moving to a more humid climate.

Hey guys, probably should post this somewhere else, but here goes.  Get this error on every boot.

Any ideas?  It stays there for 10 or 15 seconds, then boots fine...

Did some searching for this; apparently a bug that affects atheros wireless cards on laptops - unfortunately, most of the forum traffic on this is in some unfamiliar foreign languages (Polish might be one of them). Found this for Ubuntu:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1024884

I went into synaptic and found that atheros firmware wasn't installed (yet my wireless card is working). Installed the atheros firmware and that error message is gone.

For that hole you need to find a way to turn some of your golf balls into lures and attach line to them - hook/slice one into the lake and you can quickly change hobbies.

Conky / Re: Conky Tips and Tricks
May 18, 2013, 04:46:13 PM
Using the most recent VSIDO build and have discovered that, with Sid, update-notifier has a whole bunch of gnome dependencies now - like pulseaudio - that weren't included before (not that I recall anyway). So to check for updates, I am using the:

aptitude search "~U" | wc -l

method in conky that many are familiar with. Found a variation a while back that I like though - these are not my scripts:

This script checks for updates:

chkupdates.sh

#!/bin/bash

sudo apt-get -qy update > /dev/null
NUMOFUPDATES=$(aptitude search "~U" | wc -l)
echo $NUMOFUPDATES System Updates Available
if [ "$NUMOFUPDATES" -ge "1" ]
then uxterm -e ~/bin/ask-aptitude-updates.sh
fi
exit

and for the purpose of this example, will launch uxterm if there is more than 1 update available - change the "1" to "20" for 20 updates and so on ...

ask-aptitude-updates.sh

#!/bin/bash

echo "Aptitude Update System? y or n"
read -t 12 userconfirm
if [ "$userconfirm" != "y" ]; then
echo "Aptitude Update Cancelled"
exit 1
else
echo "aptitude updating system..."
sudo aptitude update
# sudo aptitude -y safe-upgrade
sudo aptitude safe-upgrade
echo ""
killall -SIGUSR1 conky
echo "aptitude update complete. Will now exit..."
sleep 3s
fi
exit

will launch uxterm (any terminal will work) and has a 12 second usercomfirm to update the system or it terminates. So the whole process is interactive and will not update your system unless prompted to do so.

If you just want to check for updates:

apt-update.sh
#!/bin/bash

sudo apt-get -qy update > /dev/null
NUMOFUPDATES=$(aptitude search "~U" | wc -l)
echo $NUMOFUPDATES

exit

Since the output is an integer only, it can be used with if_match, else, endif to give it some colour.

The result:

I suspect an interactive conky could be made out of these so that clicking on the updates would launch the update terminal.

Edit - changed " sudo aptitude -y safe-upgrade" to "sudo aptitude safe-upgrade"
Normally use this script with stable/testing; the -y flag probably not wise with sid.

Found another interesting tidbit in the fluxbox wiki -

[wallpapers] (directory) {command}
   This allows you to list your backgrounds. This tag is built in to use
   fbsetbg(1) and allows you to simply click on an image to set your
   wallpaper. See? Fluxbox makes it easy... This item can also be hacked to
   perform a command over directory content (it doesn't dive in subdirs,
   it's a hack). For instance, to choose between playlists
   [wallpapers] (~/Music/Playlists) {xmms} will perfectly work.

In my menu:

[submenu] (Wallpaper)
      [wallpapers] (~/wallpaper) {fbsetbg}
[end]

The menu setting is similar to a script I use to use a couple years back; looks to have been incorporated into fluxbox.

The screen -
