It seems I cannot install anything (or dist-upgrade) since Retrieving Bug Reports seems to hang (tho I have an internet connection).  Is there a way to bypass this?

VSIDO Discussions / Re: New installs

I just installed (for real).  There was no way to cancel, so that's what real commitment is ;)
It did go off without a hitch.  During the first login, the script ran, but it hung retrieving the bug reports (I assume that site is sluggish).
I do miss a gui for adding users... I had to add "me" back with my real user id (the number).  I can manually do it, tho.
Looking forward to blowing out the pipes.

@dizzie I have a scheme like you, except /boot.  What's the advantage of a /boot partition?
Just curious.

^reminds me... it's lunchtime... Time to install VSIDO.... now to come up with a clever name....
Juelp-> Mint
ElCid-> Siduction
#!-> CaptainCrunch (that was obvious)
Mint KDE (my kids)-> minty (after "My Little Pony")
OpenSolaris-> LouisXIV (the Sun King)
VSIDO-> ?

Maybe I should auction the name off ;)

Did you remove any kernels during the smxi?  smxi offers that in "advanced kernel options" (if I recall the option correctly)

^I've [mainly] used the distros (or the sources.list) from the guys that created siduction since about 2006, when Kanotix was based on SID.

hope you mean my uncle.  he claims he "releases the smoke" from the chip, rather than burning it.

^ is that a 24x24, 32x32, 48x48 or an svg resolution ;)
BTW I have an uncle who is a hardware engineer.  He pokes at me by saying "That's why they call it software; it's easier to change" ;)

I'm as cool as the next guy with the "shiny appearance" of vsido out of the box.
But to quote  Raj Koothrappali from the "Big Bang Theory", "Satin pajamas in satin sheets made me fall out of bed 2 times".  So, if I tone down the shinyness and change the icons, I get missing icons in tint2.  I know I can "fix" this, but is there something out of the box that was overlooked?
