I have a 13000 song library
Ideally I would like to generate ten 1300 random song playlists
I'm listening to Hometown>Wishbone Ash>There's The Rub
225/13692 a random list of all :D

General Support / Ideal Build

I'm just trying to figure out what makes sense
I finally have a pc with enough power to run virtualbox, & it is in a place where I will spend time futzing around

I use clementine & digikam
I use virtual desktops
a few different browsers, chrome, chromium, the 3rd can be midori, opera, not sure what else would do
any sort of word processor that will output doc format
preferably I can update instead of starting from scratch with new releases
none of that is hard

I'm using KDE, but xcfe is ok
I really want a sidebar on the right, with notifications & launchers/menu

I don't really understand QT vs GTK, seems like it would be good to stick with one or the other?
I guess what I'm after is stripped down KDE, just because of Digikam...
maybe build on a stick & install the finished version after spending some time testing

I can devote an hour or so per day towards my VS education

HP dc5000 sff 2.4ghz, 2g ram

I did an install, which was reasonable & does work some what
the hdd had Mageia3 on it so I went along the path of least resistance on the partition section
I ended up with a dual boot when I was trying for use the entire hdd for vsido.
what should I be doing?

I installed xfce, which is unresponsive after changing a right click setting for desktop, no way to go back unless there is a keyboard shortcut?

Media Room / What's your Favorite Picture Manager

Picasa for Linux 3.0, was very good [nothing is perfect]
features I like
1) the ability to scroll through the file tree, without opening & closing folders
2) an editor that crops, resizes, minor color adjustment...
3) uploader to G+ webalbum

I'm on Digikam [KDE ], which is overkill, but the uploader is perfect, not so much as a hiccup even for, 100's of pics at a time.

Which image file program?
I've been adrift since picasa for linux bit the big one, I have no interest in dicking around endlessly with wine
The feature I miss the most is the ability to scroll through all the files, without having to open folders
I'm using Digikam, which has all the toys of gimp in a user-friendly format, but not in a  resource friendly way.  I need crop, resize, exposure, contrast, color & a way to upload to G+
Digikam does this better than any other, uploads of 100or more goes without a hitch

Cat5e is good for 100 meters/yards
How much do I subtract for each connection[rj45 punchdown]?
Any ways to determine signal strength?

I have 2 lines that run 50+ yards
One stopped working
I don't find an open with an ohm meter
One line is fine, on the other
I have a connection indication, but no internet

Feedback & Suggestions / user friendly?

Looking at vsido as noob, I haven't found much about how many hoops I'll have to jump through to do everyday tasks?
I need a new community
I'm using mageia, but I've torqued off, one of the principle workhorses on the forum
While it's nice that one can go to the cli & fuss around with the guts, give me a GUI thank you very much...
