Yes it is a lot of metal...

Sorry it took so long.  Had to wait for 'time' to pass by so I could tell how the new kernel is working here.  Been up almost 2 days no issues, so far...  (the laptop's been up almost 2 days not me!)

Hey misko_2083!  Nice to see your still around!

Jedi do you sense the disturbance in the force?   ;)
Don't worry it's me.

I sense a deep disturbance in this entire spiral of our galaxy!  ???  Are these clock conkies you speak of? As I infer at the start of this post, 'time' is observed here poorly as it interferes with specificity in precision observation.  ::)  :D  :D omg so much smoke...

I actually only have a conky on my screen because it comes by default with VSIDO and does show some good info easily.  Other than that one liner up there that's been around a decade or more, I've lost my conky vision.  Life happened and I'm living the dream baby!

I am going to look but no promises!

ok so not much new to see, oh wait that is the new 6.0 linux kernel there!!!

No drop-down terminal hiding the conky displaying the current kernel as well...

Turned out less difficult than I had imagined.  Hours in the compiling though along with a significant amount of disc space needed for the operation as well.  Anyway, it's official the Linux Kernel is now in the 6's...

True that.. Luckily I already had a how to on how to change the UUID to avoid conflicts and just pointed to that. I don't think it will be an issue but bases are now covered..

Thanks Jedi

Are you enjoying GMB and Pithos again?

I can't believe that I went so long without.  There's been a lot of late nights playing with the machines again since the end of August!!!    ???

This ultrabook is small but what a powerful little computer when loaded with VSIDO Linux.  Touchscreen as well!  I just had to figure out the new screen as far as font sizes since you needed a microscope to read or see anything.

Very happy and pleased with this iteration!!!  8)

Wow PackRat love the dual monitor setup!  Still experimenting away.  This time it's an Lenovo Thinkpad 'Yoga' Ultrabook with fully functioning touchscreen and tablet capabilities!  Boots in around 4 seconds flat.  Using the latest .fsa download, "installed" with nary an issue...

edit: very small and thin ultrabook, screen folds all the way around to become a tablet when needed.  I believe a 12.9 inch screen, around the same size as my 2019 iPad Pro 12.9"...

Be careful of the same UUID on the same machine if you have multiple installs. That is a natural issue with fsarchive like the time zone because it keeps it.. I think I will add how to change the UUID in the After you install section and HIGHLY recommend it be done

Might want to also be aware that SWAP may also need tinkering if you have/use one. I do on this lappy so it can go into hibernate easily.  I think I had a couple of /etc/fstab edits to make before that all settled itself as well.  I'm thinking anyone using a sid is probably pretty versatile using things like blkid and mkswap and swapon stuff on the fly...  8)

::) So yeah, ceni is deprecated and on my laptop it runs however it doesn't find the wlan0 connection. (or wlp2s0 etc)  Not sure how this would work out for someone else on a different lappy.  nmtui solves this for most lappy users imo.  Of course one could go to all the trouble of doing it all via the terminal, but with wireless this tends to be a bit of a pain for some. (gasp)  Anyway it definitely works.

So the welcome script, vsido-welcome just needs some lovin' I think...  8)

The following installed just fine via vsido-welcome;
cups printer-driver-cups-pdf system-config-printer printer-driver-hpijs git git-gui git-cvs git-svn git-email mercurial subversion subversion-tools bzr bzrtools cvs thunar-vcs-plugin geany openssh-server

--Lamp Stack  -not installed because of user preference, I don't need any of it yet...
apache2 mysql-server php5 php-pear php5-gd php5-mysql php5-imagick php5-curl curl phpmyadmin rsync cronolog--  don't know if any of it would have worked.  Doubtful as to the oldish nature of some of the version numbers?

--Dev Env for Debian Packaging  installed via apt
build-essential debhelper cdbs dh-make diffutils patch gnupg fakeroot lintian devscripts dpatch dput quilt zenity clipit bashburn keepassx numlockx-- installed

--Image Editors   installed via apt
gimp inkscape mtpaint gcolor3 shotwell darktable rawtherapee-- installed

--No longer in repo's
dpatch=no candidate, bashburn=no package found, gcolor2=gcolor3 now instead and installed via apt, openjdk-6-jre is up to like 19 now, icedtea6-plugin is now icedtea-netx--  not installed

and oh yeah, cups-pdf is now printer-driver-cups-pdf.

So there, if I missed anything let me know...

Now if I can figure out this new jgmenu toy!!!
#24
Way to go PackRat! Really like the looks of the jgmenu and thinking I'll try that out next...

#25
Happily sporting VSIDO w/Fluxbox!  That new .fsa way of doing things is just  8)  Same ole same ole...

Hope everyone is well and prospering with VSIDO!!!

Quote from: VastOneNow, to be honest and solely IMO, I would want to have a working version of linux with grub working installed before I did this only because I know there is background and a working knowledge of all of this to begin with

This is probably the only way right now that it will work.  Unless, like VastOne said, one were to use chroot.  That is also discussed elsewhere already on the site.
Because already existing partitions and multiple distro's were installed, it was absolutely and totally painless starting out with just an .fsa file.  I believe there is even an older set of howto's around here on fsarchiver and doing this sometime over the last decade...

Ceni worked VastOne.  Network Manager Settings was in the Fluxbox menu on the file I used to begin.  It was the first archive we started with.  The menu item did not work so I looked and it was not installed.  I was hooked up via ethernet.  So I used apt and grabbed 'network-manager' & 'wireless-regdb'.  This simply allowed me to activate wlan0 using the Fluxbox menu.  I would have had to take several different painful steps in order to accomplish everything this did for me versus using Ceni.  Hope that makes things a little easier to understand...

Other than that one little tidbit, I just used medit to edit the config files more to my personal eclectic style.

Indeed it will!!!  Worked wonderfully easy on a HP cheapy laptop that I had several distros installed on.  Just created the partition I wanted and followed the instructions, though I may have had a bit of an advantage there...

I just restored the archive, updated grub, rebooted into the goto distro on the lappy at the time, did another update grub and voila.  Booted right into VSIDO first time!

 8) Very nice indeed!  Worked perfect for me!  ;D Outstanding work VastOne!!!  :)

Also I'm logged back into the IRC channel of OFTC if anyone is still into that sort of thing...

wow PackRat she's become quite the fishergal!!!  I'm back at the lake house for the last two years now so the lake is empty now.  I've caught all the brook trout out of it and have absolutely no pic's on here yet to show for it.
I do have a life but it has been a tough year I'll tell you certain.  Waking up from knee surgery this summer was the most painful event so far of my life.  I've missed all of you the last year or so and hope to be here more often now.  My injury happened on April 16th this spring and pretty much consumed my spring and summer this year.  We are now into fall with temp's already getting into the 30's at night.  I had to wait apprx. 3 mos for my surgery as I had to have clearance from cardiology.  Surgery in July and now 2 mos later I'm walking without a limp for the most part. Total loss of my ACL, tore the MCL and damaged a shit load of meniscus.  They cut some of my hamstring out and used it to create a new ACL graft.  I had a total dislocation of the knee this spring while working on my truck.  Total pain and total gruesomeness I have to say.  Just looking at it at the time of the injury was puke inducing!!!
Anyway same ole me otherwise as you can see by the book like entry...
