VSIDO News & Announcements / Re: Long live VSIDO

While I don't comment here nearly as much as I used to, I very proudly have used VSIDO since I found VastOnes post on the Crunchbang forums....... That was a long time ago!
I run my business with it, have had a few customers move from Ubuntu, one from Windows and love it as much today as I did the day I fisrt installed.

Happy birthday VastOne!
Yup many eons ago that was :)

VastOne sure has made one distro that's well worth it, and who would carry the mantle if the day ever comes that he's stepping down or leaves this mortal coil?

Hello Vger and everyone! Doing a drive-by and decided to post a screenie of Crowz Fluxbox with Vsido configs! Well almost not quite for my daily driver! Running Devuan Ceres (unstable), been on my machine a long while, from ascii to beowulf and ceres over the last 6 months and not even a hiccup! :)

No wallpaper, just my old zephyr alchemy symbol for "air"!

Terminal using Urxvt

That desktop looks cool and I've downloaded the CROWZ OB ISO to try out. Never ran a Devuan based distro before so will try this out using a spare HD.

So that looks like Debian will still prefer Systemd over the other init systems rather than treat them all equally.

I should play with fsarchiver as it may come in handy as I plan to move from an aging WD Raptor to an SSD soon.

Good to see you are still around VastOne. Hopefully soon Debian Sid will settle down after the freeze for Buster and then that be a good time for VSIDO to rise like a phoenix.

For gtk3?

There is darK (gnome-look) - that also has a nice icon theme to go with it. And Dobbie over at ArchLabs had put together some nice dark themes. His themes and the default ArchLabs themes are nice.

Or do you want a dark fluxbox theme? At there are tin-black, noir, and the elfin series (elfin2 has a glitch, I believe). There is also the tenr fluxbox style site.

Nice theme that reminds me of the KDE Breeze theme.

Any great dark themes suggestions for Flux?

Aren't there some posts on this forum about a similar issue with the .xsession-errors file growing so large it uses all the disk space and a user can't log in.

I think the solution to that was a simple script to limit it's size. Maybe adapt that and keep those files from getting too large.

I think any problem with .xsession-errors filling up like that would be due to some problem with the session that keeps spamming the log for example.

Ya getting old is tough indeed  :(

Thanks DeepDayze.. it turned out to be a patience issue on my part.. If I had waited one day the DMO side would have caught up to the Debian Sid repos and all would have been fine.. I know these things happen time to time as we live on the edge and I completely understand it

It is fixed and the DMO repos are now back in the builds

What pissed me off was as the end user being told I was basically an idiot for using anything other than PURE DEBIAN

Just old bullshit.. tiresome and unnecessary.. It could easily be the way the developer communicates..

I hear you...the most polite way would been to say wait tlll DMO is fully in sync then try the update again...apparently DMO and debian was not quite in sync. If I run into that issue it can be a mess to clean up though, as when you (temporarily) remove a problem package so that the update can go through it will remove anything dependent on it and that can be a mess.

I never had an issue with DMO, unless something got wacked out on DMO's side that could have triggered that bug in apt.

I can see there is a write conflict as both the DMO and the regular Debian gstreamer package share the same files. Surprised it didn't "upgrade" the package like it should.

Maybe this is either a quirk in how Fluxbox interacts with nomachine?
