Ran across this Debian page and thought it interesting in light of the recent iso dieting here...

Reducing the size of the Debian Installation Footprint

Looks like they and I have differing definitions of "non-critical package".  I will be one pissed off console jockey if someone removes ssh, traceroute, or netcat from my system!  Come to think of it, removal of grub would grind my gears also.

Does VastOne maintain an archive of the past iso's?

During a massive finger malfunction, my copy of "vsido_v1-2-Siduction_towo_3.7.1_Kernel.iso" was inadvertently deleted. 

Would love to have another copy.

I ran tcpdump, filtering on mine and the download hosts ip addresses.  Plopped the output into wireshark and it does look like some kind of timeout is occurring.  Sniffed four download attempts.  Each failed somewhere between 70 and 90 mb.  Right before failing, the download host sends a "FIN,PSH,ACK" packet.  Also noticed the download host sending quite a few "Dup ACK" packets at random intervals.

I have saved the capture file from the last attempt (~90mb), if you want it VastOne.  If you do want it, just let me know how best to send it to you.

Finally got around to installing vsido_v1-2_3.8-3_Kernel.  Didn't really need to, as my "older" VSIDO install is working perfectly.  But that spare partition was just begging to have something installed on it.  Direct download failed at just over 200mb, but wget nabbed the iso like a boss.  Install was problem free and boring as usual (boring being a high complement in this context).  B43 did not work ootb, but the usual fwcutter dance cured that handily.

The only oddity that occurred was that when I logged into desktop for the first time, the resolution had decided to set itself to "1024x768".  Thought maybe it was just a matter of FluxBox being cranky.  So logged out, then logged into Xfce.  Same thing there.  No biggie of course, set the resolution to 1440 and all was well.  Didn't remember this happening on the older version, so thought I would pop in and report it.

Now off to load my apps and smxi up some towo goodness!

Smxi'd up the latest towo kernel (3.8-0.towo-siduction-amd64).  Everything is purring like a cheetah kitten.  No issues to report.

Installed VSIDO in a vbox guest at work and liked it so much that I decided to install it on a spare partition in my personal laptop also.  Which leads me to a couple of things to brag about.

• Since Sector 11 has been asking...  This install took only 9 minutes from clicking "Install" to rebooting into the fresh new desktop.  Probably could have done it in 8 had the television not been stealing my attention.
• We don't need no steenkin network cable!  That's right, did the whole install sans network cable.  Didn't expect that to work, since my laptop sports the dreaded Broadcom wireless.  But I just staged a copy of the latest firmware to my Waldorf partition, copied it to the new VSIDO partition post-install, ran fw-cutter against it, and Bob's your uncle.  Then I was able to do the post-install dist-upgrade across wireless.  Any distro that allows me to do a full install without getting up off my lazy butt to plug into my router, is a fine distro indeed!

Hola!

Not a conky fan, so wanted to remove it.  Nothing wrong with it, in fact very nicely done, I just don't use conky normally.

Went into "Application Autostart", de-selected Conky, de-selected save session, cleared saved sessions, restarted, and there's Conky stubbornly staring back at me.  Where is it getting started?

Obviously I can apt-get remove it, but that seems so brutal.  Just looking for a more "surgical" approach.
