Subtle changes to conky and the GMusicBrowser Desktop Widget Plugin

Been without wheels for a couple of weeks so I am in tweak mode. Attached is the latest widget for GMB, just save it in your ~/.config/gmuscibrowser/layouts directory and then load it from the Plugins/Desktop Widgets in the settings of GMB

Both VSIDO FSA's were updated to the new 6.5.0-4-amd64 kernel

I also vetted and redid the opening vsido-welcome script and it now installs everything cleanly, thank you Jed for your help

You can download the btrfs and ext4 fsarchives at the VSIDO download site here

There is also a How To on how to effectively use fsarchive to get this installed

There is a current a package list that shows everything that is installed in VSIDO. Please review this file and let me know of anything needed, removed or added

I tested the entire vsido-welcome script today, I did a brand new install with the 3 times edited and corrected attached files above and am now 100% confident that they all install without issue with all the latest levels.. I'm sure there are other things we can include and I will dive into that deeper later this winter

Quote from: VastOne on October 30, 2023, 06:12:00 PMThank you for this Jed, a year later I have finally gone through and cleaned up and updated vsido-welcome to its latest versions and it will be available and working again on the next version of the FSA release. I have also attached the changed files in the lib-vsido-welcome.tar.gz listed here. Just extract the files to your /usr/lib/lib-vsido-welcome directory on VSIDO

Anyone who may have downloaded that file, do it again as I have made edits that are now in this latest attached file

Quote from: jedi on September 07, 2022, 03:01:04 AM::) So yeah, ceni is deprecated and on my laptop it runs however it doesn't find the wlan0 connection. (or wlp2s0 etc)  Not sure how this would work out for someone else on a different lappy.  nmtui solves this for most lappy users imo.  Of course one could go to all the trouble of doing it all via the terminal, but with wireless this tends to be a bit of a pain for some. (gasp)  Anyway it definitely works.

So the welcome script, vsido-welcome just needs some lovin' I think...  8)

The following installed just fine via vsido-welcome;
cups printer-driver-cups-pdf system-config-printer printer-driver-hpijs git git-gui git-cvs git-svn git-email mercurial subversion subversion-tools bzr bzrtools cvs thunar-vcs-plugin geany openssh-server

--Lamp Stack  -not installed because of user preference, I don't need any of it yet...
apache2 mysql-server php5 php-pear php5-gd php5-mysql php5-imagick php5-curl curl phpmyadmin rsync cronolog--  don't know if any of it would have worked.  Doubtful as to the oldish nature of some of the version numbers?

--Dev Env for Debian Packaging  installed via apt
build-essential debhelper cdbs dh-make diffutils patch gnupg fakeroot lintian devscripts dpatch dput quilt zenity clipit bashburn keepassx numlockx-- installed

--Image Editors  installed via apt
gimp inkscape mtpaint gcolor3 shotwell darktable rawtherapee-- installed

--No longer in repo's
dpatch=no candidate, bashburn=no package found, gcolor2=gcolor3 now instead and installed via apt, openjdk-6-jre is up to like 19 now, icedtea6-plugin is now icedtea-netx--  not installed

and oh yeah, cups-pdf is now printer-driver-cups-pdf.

So there, if I missed anything let me know...

Now if I can figure out this new jgmenu toy!!!

VSIDO Changes / LightDM Login Icon/Avatar setup
October 21, 2023, 09:16:35 PM
For whatever reasons, the new ISO's lightdm setup is not seeing .face in the default /home directory. I got around this by putting it in a path other than a users /home directory, the latest lightdm seems to have issues understanding the permissions in anything other than root. I ended up putting it in /usr/share/images/desktop-base/ and then default-user-image=/usr/share/images/desktop-base/.face in the lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf file

It's hard to do as well as an original but Joss Stone did it IMO

VSIDO and The Grateful Dead, is there anything finer?

That is GMusicBrowser with the Clem Desktop Widget I created

More intel on this, I reran
sudo dpkg-reconfigure lxdm and booted to the blank screen as shown below but when I go to tty1 (ctrl alt f1) and login, startx  happens as if it were logging in from any login manager and I am started at my normal desktop...

This is interesting and may provide more opportunities to isolate and/or solve.

#57
I have an open bug report here but it seems to be not taken seriously since it cannot be reproduced.

Perhaps we can solve this for them... Is anyone on any SID version now that can load and run lxdm and test it as well? If you use the latest VSIDO fsarchive download you will need to download lxdm to see the issue

General Support / Re: reinstalling grub

How to recover deleted or corrupted Grub2 bootloader

Cheers!!!

This is the very reason I keep this alive.. I used hakerdefo's How To and RatMan's incredible wisdom just tonight when a new install of kernel 6.5.0-1 decided to shit all over grub and make my testing VBox unbootable.. A quick Google search for grub reinstall and VSIDO brought me exactly to this place for a very quick fix.. I am eternally grateful for all the help this has provided to the world for a very very long time

Been doing the fsarchive version for a year now as it was first posted here last September 4

It's been an interesting and fun ride that is helping keep this decaying old mans mind a bit sharper

Cheers
