General Support / Re: Steam on VSIDO
March 24, 2013, 07:32:47 PM
I am sure it is a Debian issue.  There are thousands of successes with Steam and 10's of thousands of failures in the Linux world right now..  It is all still so new and in the process of hashing out

@Sector11, what did you mean by playing with Ubuntu on Debian?  Ubuntu simply forked Steam to work on their platform, Steam is still a Linux development by default

Larry has written an incredible VSIDO review here.

I am truly humbled by this.. Thank you Larry!

Oh my ... the KDE edition, wow!

@Sector11, that is an incredible setup with the wall and panels.. very nice

@jedi, When I have to run Widows in a VSIDO VM, I am amazed at how fast it is.. Can the same be said in your reverse setup?  Nice BTW!

Very detailed Jedi!

Impressive! ... I am sure Oz can contact you with any issues if he runs into them

Does everything have to be so serious all the time?

I am tired, just tired.. It is suddenly like I can't do a damned thing right

This thread is called a little feedback, and I appreciate the opportunity to give back a little of my own

I did not build this for any one individual, but to try and accommodate several needs.  If I happen to like Fluxbox and think OB is very lacking, that is no new news to anyone.  I have never hid my dislike of OB, but that does not mean I would ever drop it.

What I do expect is for people who do like OB to champion it, for people who do like conky to champion it, for people who do like tint2 to champion it and of course for anyone who likes VSIDO to champion it too

Sure, or just eliminate the problem child that is Xfce

^ Right, OB is not the issue, it is Xfce that causes the headache

Since I have no control over what a user decides to use between Xfce/FB/OB, /usr/local/bin is the logical choice for it.  It works OOTB, and that is what is relevant...

Anybody can move them to where ever they want after the install

Hey Oz,

I know that jedi uses SSD drives and has gone through this, and I believe lwfitz has also

jedi may be a while before he answers, he is down for a while while his lappy is replaced

You can run them from anywhere. My intention is to localize them in /usr/local/bin so that when they are called from anything that cannot handle $HOME and $USERS I do not have to worry about where they are.

It is either Xfce (most likely the culprit), OB or FB or all that cannot handle the tint2 files being called unless it is a direct path.  If it is in the /home directory of every user and I cannot use $HOME or ~/.config/tint2 or $USER variables, they will not run

If anyone has a solution to the issue, I am all ears
