I've Got a Life / High Time We Went
October 22, 2015, 02:36:12 AM
The "posse" and I relocated to Lake Ellsworth in SW Ok, sizable lake with fishing dock and boat ramps very close, right down the street. Peaceful, very quiet with an acre parcel to maybe have a garden this spring. Haven't gardened in decades, should use the word "attempt".

Fishing will be in the near future, just have to get my tackle and gear ready.

# sudo apt-get install police and save me && sudo apt-get autoremove criminal --purge

There, everybody should be good to go, no thanks necessary.

@ jedi: Thank you for going right to the core, and to the aspirations and ideas that I also share. We were raised similar with guns, never shot anything for sport or thrill.

"When the government fears the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny."
-- Thomas Jefferson.

"They that would give up essential liberty for a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
-- Benjamin Franklin

Being an American carries responsibilities, stay ever vigilant.

An armed population is difficult to over throw, a measure against tyranny. Europe, Asia, South America, Africa, Middle East, and Baltic nations have all seen their fair share of tyrants. They were all unarmed. Disarming is first step to slavery.

@PackRat:  Thanks for the vsido-exit with the window manager agnostic script, it worked and quite well. I had a lot of issues going on and the lightdm was not a part of the problem at all. But the script did the job. Also went ahead and used smxi to upgrade kernel to 4.2.0 and all looks good.   Do appreciate you taking the time to help us out.  Thank you.:)

VastOne now has a Oct01 release, and will be looking at that next.

@jedi: Thanks for the info, have already prepared another drive for install because I was going to blame another Seagate 1 Tb drive for the misfortune. I ran into that early this year and really a bad hd can cause strange issues.  Thanks

@VastOne & jedi: Remember the last lightdm update in the same time frame as you and opt for the keeping the old. I don't remember seeing lightdm at all on this update. I think it is something else but not sure what to attribute it to. When I booted up, had ugly lightdm and user name not present, would not accept my password. Have been using VSIDO daily and d-u about twice daily, and everything has been going quite smoothly, until the last one. So, it wasn't like it was a large catchup d-u.

@Snap: My VSIDO install too, can't login.  Has all the issues that you commented on. I guess it's is the d-u that broke the camels back. Didn't see a lightdm update with the d-u, might have missed it.

Other sid distro installs not effected with the d-u.

@PackRat:  Who would have thought that Pluto being considered a distant ball of ice and rock, now has a lot more going on.  Very interesting, enjoyed the photos and info.  Maybe a rethink of Pluto being a dwarf planet is in order.

It is interesting that Pluto and Neptune trade places ever so often being the furtherest out from the Sun. (about every 230 years)

General Support / Re: Commandlinefu

@Snap: I did find the open sans font, a bit different than the sans true type. I found the package for a lot of fonts from the Deb package site, and did decide to download and install
QuoteAre you an open sans user too? My to go font in most of my systems. A great one for clarity and readability = confort.  8)
I concur, the open sans do render quite well and easy on the eye. For anyone else interested the link is below.

https://packages.debian.org/sid/texlive-fonts-extra

The font is also available with synaptic.  Listed as Texlive-fonts-extra. Thanks again-zephyr

@Snap: You are welcome for the script line, thought about posting just that one line, but decided to post it all. It maybe of use to someone.

Actually use the sans font for everything, easy to look at and does have a more uniform look. But, I need to take a look at the open sans see what the difference is. Imagine they are part of the sans serif category. Thanks-zephyr

Came across Commandlinefu accidentally as well, but with a conky that I found. It generates a random commandline script and I did consider it a waste of resources.  But, post it anyway if anyone would like to see it. Seems to require to have Lynx installed. Thanks -zephyr# conky configuration

VSIDO Discussions / Re: distro upgrade or what?
August 17, 2015, 10:04:56 AM
@Snap: Yea, been dist-upgrading the whole time, lost libreoffice and synaptic for a while. Downloaded and installed libreoffice5.0, just put 5.0 at the end of libreoffice in the menu, and worked. Synaptic is back working again. I just haven't added in apps other than what was lost. VSIDO seems to be working atm in an exemplary fashion, like it normally does. Thanks for the link, explains a lot. - zephyr

General Support / Re: Digikam: broken held packages
August 11, 2015, 09:53:18 PM
@Gordon: Sid is going through a large and extensive upgrade, chances are that digicam has unmet dependencies, leaving your install with broken packages. Some of us is just waiting this out until sid is fully upgraded, or doing the dist-upgrade without breakage at this point. To reset your terminal, run
Quotesudo dpkg --configure -a
This should reset your terminal, and run
Quotesudo apt-get update
And, this to check your terminal and "apt-get" has cleared.  I would recommend holding off trying to install new packages until this sid upgrade completes.  -zephyr
