I generally prefer FF/IW over Chrom(e|ium) every time.

But...if you want to avoid the Gmail ads in Chrome, load up the Gmelius extension from the Chrome web store.  It blocks the pesky Gmail ads and allows you to "correct" some of Gmail's UI issues.

It works fine for me.  I believe the user was answering numerically, instead of alphabetically (i.e. the answer is a word).

I will go to #! forum and give them a hint.  ;)

By the way, in the course of testing, I created user testlinsley.  Feel free to delete him.

Weird...I watched Prometheus again last night too.

Love the wall.  It reminds me of the Pastafarian "Touched by His Noodly Appendage" (a parody of Michelangelo's The Creation of Adam).

Just installed "vsido_raptor_64bit_2013_10_21.iso".  Awesome as always!  In the process of doing the post-install Broadcom Boogie, I discovered the driver name has changed in the latest "b43-fwcutter".  Updated the relevant post (reply #2 above) accordingly, in case anyone should find it useful.

VSIDO Discussions / Interesting Debian Page

Ran across this Debian page and thought it interesting in light of the recent iso dieting here...

Reducing the size of the Debian Installation Footprint

Looks like they and I have differing definitions of "non-critical package".  I will be one pissed off console jockey if someone removes ssh, traceroute, or netcat from my system!  Come to think of it, removal of grub would grind my gears also.

@statmonkey - Awesome.  Happy to hear you are "headache-free".

@Yes I have heard the 4313 is the most evil of the Broadcom spawn.  Hmm looks like that package would add little overhead (54.3 kB) to the iso...

@statmonkey - Lol.  It's a small world (internet).  I was just on that page recently, learning about cdpath.  That "bash -v" is interesting, don't recall using it before.  But now that I have seen the output, I will be compelled to cleanup my crufty environment darn-it.

After recovering from an unfortunate (read self-inflicted) bookmark meltdown (FF sync and Xmark butted heads, don't ask), I offer a few bash links.

Hope someone finds them useful.   :)

@tlinsley

Block selection is not possible in Medit per my searches on google...

Geany would be your choice and one you are comfortable with

Thanks for verifying!  My googling had turned up nothing positive, so just wanted to make sure I had not missed something obvious.

As for your plan to remove Geany, no worries here.  I customize the crap out of every distro I load anyways.  I have found your VSIDO and Siduction to be the best boiler plate distros for Debian.  Now it will be Siduction for Xfce and VSIDO for Fluxbox.  Good thing I created extra root partitions a while back... ;D

Hopefully I can load up and try out your new build next week.  Lately I have been using mostly Fedora, while I studying for the RH certs.  Getting back to Debian/VSIDO land for a few days will be a very welcome respite!

Yes I think we are talking about the same thing.  And "Ctrl + mouse select" does not work for me.

Just in case we are not speaking of same...

Block select in Geany via "Shift + Ctrl + mouse select":

Attempted block select in Medit via "Ctrl + mouse select":

Does medit support rectangular selections?  I have tried all the usual key combos from other editors to no avail.

I use it sometimes when I'm overcome with laziness.  But it's just as easy to pop a term and do it the "right" way.

Add my vote to the "remove and welcome script" stack...

Sorry to hear that.   I believe that command requires sudo, in case you didn't try it.

Here are other alternatives which also require sudo.

Code: [Select]
gnome-session-quit

jgnome-session-save --force-logout

And a few that should not.

Code: [Select]

kill -9 -1

dbus-send --session --type=method_call --print-reply --dest=org.gnome.SessionManager /org/gnome/SessionManager org.gnome.SessionManager.Logout uint32:1

Good luck.

.... How can I logout in the terminal to get to the login screen?

Disclaimer: I don't currently run gnome, so cannot verify this.  But...

I believe the command to logoff via terminal is:
Code: [Select]
/usr/bin/gnome-session-save --kill
Hope that helps.   ;)
