Hi VastOne,

Sorry it's been a while but not been around.
I typed in what you said and got the results that you said i would get. the problem is that that is a US keyboard layout not a UK keyboard layout. anyway  now going to search and try to find out how to change the keyboard layout. My keyboard is a Microsoft wireless comfort keyboard 5000 so here goes

Hi VastOne,
YIPEE.
I'm at last on VSIDO again. It appears that I was only doing one thing wrong with adduser and that was that I was logged in as root and using sudo as well. I dropped sudo and all is well.
Thanks for all your help.
Got another problem now, how do I change the keyboard layout as I have no idea which layout it is using and that going to cause me problems with all my passwords, it's probable the reason that I can't  log on to the  website on my computer.
Cheers Gordon  :)

Hi Vastone.
I've installed VSIDO now using the fsarchiver but now I have other problems.
It won't  use "sudo adduser" keeps comming up with "Please enter a username matching the regular expression configued via the NAME_REGEX configuration variable. Use the --allow-bad-names option etc" no idea what it mene or what to do.
I also can't sign into vsido even though i'm logged in on my tablet

Well, I managed to do it again, made a mess of it as usual so i now have to start by installing mx21 again as the vsido 2019 does just the same as the old one. For some reason or other it won't  intall just keeps comming up with error failed to install or a similar message. Back to the drawing board  :)

Hi VastOne,
Thanks for that and I'm glad that you managed to sort the problem out.
I've  just downloaded the fsa file without any problem and I also download the 2019 iso again which I'm just about to burn onto a dvd.
hopefully I won't screw it up  :)

Hi Chaps,
Thanks for the replys. Do I have to have the 2019 iso installed or will it run from the dvd. If i copy the fsarchive file to a usb will it work from there.

Hi Folks

I'm trying to get back onto VSIDO. At present I'm on MX I  and don't really like it. I only left because I couldn't get VSIDO to work on the 2019 version. Just been looking at the latest downloads and  I don't understand what's going on as there doesn't seem to be an iso only a list of files and I have no idea what to do with them.
how do I come back? please
don't forget I'm a bit of a numnut always asking stupid questions

cheers
Gordon  :)

Hi PackRat,
Yes i meant VSIDO, sorry for the confusion. I have already tried out your suggestion but that gets me nowhere either. I have installed  MX21 werewolf so I'll try burning another VSIDO disc and see how that goes, maybe there was a glitch in the download

Hi VastOne,

Tried again today to install VSIDO but again with no luck.
Sometimes well most of the time is crashed once I had filled in all the blocks and set up the format stage it then crashes.
It eventually goes all the way through to install and installs the program, at this stage if you do the VSIDO-welcome it does everything until you ask it to install the printer and Libreoffrice etc, it then crrashes. if you skip all the printer libreoffice etc and quit the install at this point and try to do the rest in sudo terminal it then comes up with

Could no open lock file var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend-open (13 permission denied)

Hope this is a better explanation

On the other side just found MX21 Linux. Have you seen if so what do you think of it ?

Hi VastOne,
I can login after the install but it won't let me install any programs it kept saying that something was missing, can't remember what sorry, even though I was logged in as sudo. After trying to install the welcome screen it wont let me sign in at all. Just keeps going back to password.

Thinking about it i think it could not find repository or something along those lines

General Support / installation problem
April 20, 2022, 03:37:19 PM
Hi
I started with this problem a while ago trying to upgrade to the lastest version of the kernel.
I think i was on 4 .19.4 or something like that and was trying to get to 5.?, i can't remember exactly. Since then i haven't been on for a long time as we moved the house around and needed to get a long ethernet cable, finally got one. Tried a new install and have had no sucess so far. I think the problem is something to do with the part of the installation that you get with the welcome section of the install. I get as far as install libreoffice etc and then it will no longer let me sign on to the computer. I had tried a load of times with the same results. It also keeps failing to continue after filling in all the required info formatting the hd manually or automatically, it does continue after a few attemps. It's not the computer as i have successfully installed fedora, not sure i like it, so any ideas as to why the failure. Sorry forgot to say it never installs libreoffice etc.
