Hi All.
Well I decided to start the whole process again from scratch. Reformated the drive, reinstalled fsarchiver. I didn't add a user, instead I reconfigured the keyboard to the UK first then changed VSIDO pw then went tty1 and used smxi to do the rest ( it was already installed ).

A question now, do i have to add a user or can i just use it as it is.

I still have to add my required programs.

Cheers Gordon.  :)

Hi VastOne

if I log in as myself in root terminal and run smxi I get an error ( 8 ) message.
if I login in on VSIDO and cd / it changes to vsido@vsido:/$ and then use smxi I get an error ( 2 ) message. if I run terminal in vsido I get
vsido@vsido:~$ su
Password:
root@vsido:/home/vsido# smxi

Your X/Desktop (kde/gnome/xfce etc..) must be shutdown to run this script.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Since you are currently in X, you will need to run smxi again after
X has shutdown, and you have logged back in. You will lose any work
you have not saved on your running desktop.
------------------------------------------------------------------
1 - shutdown-your-desktop Kill X now. Remember, you will need to log back in,
    and start smxi again.
2 - quit-script Quit smxi, don't shut down the current X session or desktop.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Would you like to shutdown your X/Desktop now?
------------------------------------------------------------------
1) shutdown-your-desktop
2) quit-script
#?

if I reboot I'll end up in the same place

Hi

Well I found smxi in the end and installed it as per their web site but it won't let me install it in either root terminal or in VSIDO root. it keeps telling me that I have to be root which I find very confusing so don't know what to do

Hi Folks,
Me again, i'm having trouble with my screen resolution. I usually use smxi to do this as i have an old graphics card and it installs a nvidia driver. I have tried to use tty1 and tty2 but it says it's controlled by V-Ger and i can't get it to root to use it. How do i get over this problem please  :)

Hi VastOne,

Sorry it's been a while but not been around.
I typed in what you said and got the results that you said i would get. the problem is that that is a US keyboard layout not a UK keyboard layout. anyway  now going to search and try to find out how to change the keyboard layout. My keyboard is a Microsoft wireless comfort keyboard 5000 so here goes

Hi VastOne,
YIPEE.
I'm at last on VSIDO again. It appears that I was only doing one thing wrong with adduser and that was that I was logged in as root and using sudo as well. I dropped sudo and all is well.
Thanks for all your help.
Got another problem now, how do I change the keyboard layout as I have no idea which layout it is using and that going to cause me problems with all my passwords, it's probable the reason that I can't  log on to the  website on my computer.
Cheers Gordon  :)

Hi Vastone.
I've installed VSIDO now using the fsarchiver but now I have other problems.
It won't  use "sudo adduser" keeps comming up with "Please enter a username matching the regular expression configued via the NAME_REGEX configuration variable. Use the --allow-bad-names option etc" no idea what it mene or what to do.
I also can't sign into vsido even though i'm logged in on my tablet

Well, I managed to do it again, made a mess of it as usual so i now have to start by installing mx21 again as the vsido 2019 does just the same as the old one. For some reason or other it won't  intall just keeps comming up with error failed to install or a similar message. Back to the drawing board  :)

Hi VastOne,
Thanks for that and I'm glad that you managed to sort the problem out.
I've  just downloaded the fsa file without any problem and I also download the 2019 iso again which I'm just about to burn onto a dvd.
hopefully I won't screw it up  :)
