New month, new screenshot thread.

^ Thanks for the December thread setup, I appreciate it Mr RatMan
Nice wintry Flux setup with some really good ambient tunes by Max Corbacho playing on GMB

No problem Mr VastOne.
nice shot; looks like you're in the hunt for some new hardware?
^ Not really... But if I were to get a 120G SSD I would not complain!

Got bored so I started playing with Cinnamon again.
@lwfitz - nice; did you build cinnamon from git?
small change; added some volume controls to the fvwm panel -
(http://en.zimagez.com/miniature/kong0.png) (http://en.zimagez.com/zimage/kong0.php)
@PackRat
Thanks, no I cheated and just got the necessary .debs from the Debian site. Probably wouldve been better to build from source.
I didn't realize debian had them. I wonder if it would be possible to apt pin the cinnamon desktop and add the Linux Mint repos? Just thinking out loud here, my oldest uses my linux computers every now and again and likes some bling.
I dont think you would want Mints repo's since they are on testing but you could install cinnamon and it should stay updated just fine since its in the repo's already
^ That's for sure. I got E18 using the Sparky Linux repos but that had no gnome dependencies etc ...
back on topic - dwm; I try to like this window manager, but just never get attached to it. Probably because tabbed windows in fluxbox and i3 are some much better.

Wow, very nice Snap... Well done!!! 8)
Lady johannson or tint2? :D
Finally giving Enlightenment WM a run for it's money. Very impressed so far! All the tweaking and eye candy you could ever possibly want, and more!

Very nice shots Snap! (And welcome to VSIDO)
The last time I tried it felt to me a bit irritating... I cannot remember exactly why. ;D I think I'll give it another go some day.
Thanks, jedi. BTW, I want to ask you about a conky, but in the adequate section. ;)
Fluxbox Love! Just no getting around it. Once you realize all it can do, hard to switch for long to anything else...

So true. I was a dedicated fvwm user then tried fluxbox to experiment with the tabbed windows. Go back to fvwm for about a week; then right back to fluxbox.
Changed around the conkyForecast a little bit.

Nothing spectacular - fvwm:
(http://en.zimagez.com/miniature/newpic0.png) (http://en.zimagez.com/zimage/newpic0.php)
Came across an interesting app though - xcal. Never heard of it before today, but wanted to find an app to display the date that could be swallowed by FvwmButtons into the panel. Found xcal in the repos; nice little app that is an interactive calendar with an internal notepad and can be set up with alarms. Left click on the calendar pops up the month long calender. Mouse click on the little box on the left brings up the memo pad.
Kind of handy, no dependencies that aren't already installed.
edit - modified the clock to be digital, fixed my weather (fuck) conky -

Nothing spectacular? Are ye mad lad?
Nice find on the xcal... I had seen it a long time ago in some conky fanatics setup
Xcal is that tall thing at the left? Fugly! But seems interesting. Will give it a go. Thanks.
The tall thing at left is the panel I built with FvwmButtons - its FvwmPager, launcher buttons, FvwmIconManager, stalonetray, xclock, volume controls, and xcal.
xcal is just the one-line date app at the bottom; mouse clicks bring up the full calendar or memo pad.
xcal on fluxbox -

I was looking at using xcalendar - full month calendar along the lines of xclock; but it has apparently fallen by the wayside. Wouldn't compile.
Aaaah, that thingy looks much better and less in the way. Cool.
Just some simple changes........

Not really changed anything other than trying out the new Kernel...
(http://en.zimagez.com/miniature/121014a.jpg) (http://en.zimagez.com/zimage/121014a.php)
Memory hog, and runs a little hotter. No surprises...
816 MB without apps running? Wow... ???
Yeah, I mention it's a bit of a memory hog above. Common for newly released Kernel's. As far as no apps running, that isn't entirely true. I'm running PlexMediaServer so all the computers/tablets in the house can utilize the music and video library on the secondary hdd. Also running a couple of other items in the background as well. I figure with 16Gb's of RAM, I'm not stretching anything to thin!
Did some rearranging, and a new background. Nothing special...
(http://en.zimagez.com/miniature/121114a.jpg) (http://en.zimagez.com/zimage/121114a.php)
@lwfitz
Mind sharing that lower tint2 config? I like it!
If it is tint2, I would like to borrow it as well. He's still using Cinnamon so I figured it was the gnome panel.

I am open to changing the bottom tint2 panel in VSIDO. We have been using my favorite default for way too long, it's time for you creative geniuses to come up with a new one
I'll take a cup of that tint2... too.
QuoteI am open to changing the bottom tint2 panel in VSIDO. We have been using my favorite default for way too long, it's time for you creative geniuses to come up with a new one
Challenge accepted.
Though I cannot promise something nice and useful. Geniality doesn't apply around here. :D
snap I'm beginning to think that you are related somehow to Jedi, everytime I read something that you write it sounds just like something he would say. This of course is a compliment.
;D
I started a thread for the tint2 challenge here (http://vsido.org/index.php?topic=884.msg10212#msg10212)

I finally found my prodigal brother!!! :D
Sorry for the delayed response VastOne. PackRat is correct, it is Cinnamon but I think a similar tint2 would be fairly easy.
Latest install of x64 VSIDO updated to the 3.17 kernel and using one tint2 config that has it all... I have also removed wicd and use ceni for netwerk setup
Boots to 124 MiB .... I can live with that (x86 boots to 96)

Nah, just messing about with a full length tint2 config. I can free up some screen real estate by doing it that way, so I may just stick with it! I have posted the config in the Tint2 configs thread that started this conversation...
I rarely log into the Windows 7 half of my dual boot so I took a shot -

That little pool has a couple clam beds and my youngest is actually digging up some clams; if we go back to that lake, I'm bringing a couple rakes.

Awesome Conky lwfitz! How 'bout posting that config in the Conky configs section? (I might "cough-cough" have to 'borrow' it!)
And hope you had a Merry one too, Santa!!!
Thanks Jedi! I worked off of someone else's but cant remember where I found it. Gimme a bit and Ill get it posted for you
Messing around this morning instead of cutting up the dead fall out back. Finished setting up VSIDO desktop as an nfs and ftp server -
VSIDO nfs client -
(http://en.zimagez.com/miniature/nfspic.png) (http://en.zimagez.com/zimage/nfspic.php)
Windows 8 ftp client -
(http://en.zimagez.com/miniature/muntitled.png) (http://en.zimagez.com/zimage/muntitled.php)
pretty sure I can stream that music from the ftp server directly; wasn't happening today. Next time I need to dodge some chores, I'll figure it out :D
Windows is very weird (IMO) when it comes to allowing somethings to stream and/or play... My son has several movies and albums on 2 Windows machines (Don't Ask!!!) that will not show up on Smart TV's DLNA services that does see the connection fine but just does not see other videos (about 1 in 3 not seen)
I can put the exact same videos on my Plex server and they show up on the Smart TV DLNA perfectly and they also will be seen and play no issues on a WDTV device too
So I think Windows is inhibited by either Codec or licensing or even a Windows Media Player setup issue that you may want to at least be aware of
I figured it had to be something on the Windows side of things to allow it - or get media player to work across ftp.
