ripoonjadi, by soffmi muhod.  it's not really music (or is it?)... but i cant stop having multiple daily doses of it.  part ambient, part hardcore, part noizecore, part glitch, part braindance, part avant-garde...  but... is it music?  it's a three track e.p. sort of thing...  but music?  idk.  http://soffmimuhod.bandcamp.com/album/ripoonjadi (http://soffmimuhod.bandcamp.com/album/ripoonjadi)

Digit.. this is just sampled video game soundfx (done poorly and off beat)..
I would hope that this is not considered music. Then again I don't care much for "electonica" or whatever they may be calling it these days.

Just my opinion.. I am not bashing it.  :)

Digit.. this is just sampled video game soundfx (done poorly and off beat)..
I would hope that this is not considered music. Then again I don't care much for "electonica" or whatever they may be calling it these days.

Just my opinion.. I am not bashing it.  :)

hehe, feel free to bash it if you like too.  :)   i've no illusions about it having wide appeal.  i rather expect all but 0.000001% of the world's population to not like it.  anything above that is a bonus.  ^_^

... oh, and yes... when i set out making this sort of thing, i never rly considered it music (having many musician friends who make real music), and saw it merely as an extension of my surreal abstract visual arts, in a new form, and called it audio-art.   ... though i have since encountered numerous other examples of as-weird stuff, that does call itself music... so... i suppose we just have to accept a broader conception of what music is.   ... it technically does apply.  :S   though the aesthetics may not convey corroboration of that technicality to the beholder.

however, no samples were used (from video games or otherwise) in the making of the ripoonjaddi EP.  wave forms were created entirely from scratch (iirc).

... as is the case (to an extent) for...

http://soffmimuhod.bandcamp.com/album/- (http://soffmimuhod.bandcamp.com/album/-)

i've just listened to the first half of soffmi muhod's orange album^.

i'm a few tracks into a playlist of all soffmi muhod's major releases (or, my faves rly), which has come out at 57 tracks long (one of my fave numbers), and 7 hours 18 minutes and 30 seconds.   ... methinks i should produce a collectors run of these 2 E.P.s and 6 albums, now that i know there's a propagating fractal fanbase starting.

i say releases, but then, i'm on little weekend cave people audio art...  only three people have been afforded the opportunity to receive lwcpaa... it being soffmi muhod's earliest stuff (the files dont even have soffmi muhod on them)... so, idk if that really qualifies as being released, or indeed, perhaps not even soffmi muhod.

*rubs hands together pondering how plush to make these 8 disc collectors editions*

anyhoo, barring interruption, for the next seven hours, i'll be listening to:

Little Weekend Cave People Audio Art

QECCKA KYHEB

pHϕmorphia

ripoonjaddi

dinqemyveip1

bep

QOXEH

and... the orange album.   O_O

most of which, and some not in my playlist, can be found nhya: http://soffmimuhod.bandcamp.com (http://soffmimuhod.bandcamp.com)

soffmi muhod's a weird one.  was really hard to find any releases for years after QECCKA KYHEB, which in itself was only on an obscure versioned release (and given the naming convention i expect the same will come of QOXEH), each version only having 1 to 15 available (last i heard rumour of a version 0.9).   so after being tittilated by a few very limited and restricted releases for the tiny fanbase (like trance plankton whalesong) and some pseudo-live performances dotted around between 2003 and 2008...  in 2012 came the album soffmi muhod had been working on for over half a decadee, pHϕmorphia and then bam, bam, bam, prolific surge of releases into first half of 2013... then the orange album came...  and then silence again....

it might not surprise anyone to witness me divulge that once again, i've just been listening to ... more soffmi muhod (http://soffmimuhod.bandcamp.com).   ^_^

specifically: first ominator (http://soffmimuhod.bandcamp.com/track/ominator-preview1), then dem, then i just let the rest of the QOXEH (http://soffmimuhod.bandcamp.com/album/qoxeh) album play on once dminipv came on after dem.  the orange album is in the playlist next.  :)

it seems to be almost* the only thing i listen to these days.   ... i did the same with boards of canada for years.   and had about a year where it was aphex twin's selected ambient works only.  i can be kinda weird like that.

*have also been mixing it up with jean michel jarre, mozart, tchaikovsky, chopin, vivaldi, autechre, tortoise, and others too.

^ That would have been one hell of a concert...

I was at Stevie's last concert at Alpine Valley Music Theater in Wisconsin and was just driving away when his helicopter crashed... I had a feeling it was bad and found out later that day just how bad it was

^ A radio station in Las Vegas did a simulcast of that concert - I recorded it; then heard the news driving out to work the next morning. They were still confused on whether or not Eric Clapton was on the helicopter.

I have to transfer that concert to CD or mp3 one of these days.

just listened to almost 24 hours of "no borders radio (http://www.nobordersradio.co.uk/)" on scottish sovereigns. (http://scottishsovereignsontheland.ning.com/)
woulda kept it on longer, but it hit a loop it seems after about 20 hours or so...  though they do have new unique live shows every evening, listed in their schedule.  peedie* bits o music, but mostly talking about bloody brilliant freedom stuff.  enough to get any freedom lover siting up and salivating.  :)

omnomnom, big heap pile o audio nom for the ears there^, many posts.

i do appreciate that kind of stuff too...  i can be a bit of a progaholic, n nom up the krautrock, n enjoy the classic rock, some 50s n 60s pop, some 70s n 80s synth stuff, and so on...
... but in other tastes...

i'm listening to QOXEH again... third time in 2 days.  starting to think it miiiight be my fave soffmi muhod album.  especially have much love for the tracks dminipv, reindeer and shantagaraga, though all the tracks fit n work to create the thing that it is.  i'm sure i had some nihilistic/dystopian/neo-post-apocalptic/forboading/transcendent/overcoming-adversity-miasma concept in mind when i made it... but really, now, i just appreciate it on a shallower, more aesthetic level.  many little touches that have me splutter in near disbelief and astonishment "i made this!?", and, well... two things about that, 1) yes i did, and i made it for me, so it bloody well should be pleasing to my tastes, and 2) no i didnt, the cosmos made it through me.  my ego had to take a back seat during the creative process. ;)

VastOne liked the Frank Yamma song I posted earlier and that made me think. This world is such a huge place with so many diverse cultures, all with their indeginous, traditional music forms. And sadly because of American-British monopoly over music business and international media we never ever get to hear or know about many wonderful musicians-artists. I can safely bet that atleast 90 percent of world poulation would have never heard and are completely unawre of existence of around 90 percent albums on the rolling stone magazine's '500 Greatest Albums of All Time' list. The more appropriate title would have been '500 Greatest American-British Albums of All Time'.
Enough rant. Here is something new and fresh for all those american-british ears,

OK..history warning here. Les Paul...along with Leo Fender they basically invented the electric guitar. I was fortunate to be at a show
at Fat Tuesdays in his prime. After the show I was the first up to the bar where Les happily autographed  his most recently released boxed cd set.
As a guitarist, I was high beyond belief!

Since we are talking about guitars, this guy played electric guitar using his thumb rather than a pick. Charlie Daniels said about him,

QuoteHe played differently from anyone I'd ever known
Cause he did it all with his thumbHe could play as tender as a virgin's kiss
Or blast it all to kingdom come.

Here he is, son of the south, Toy Caldwell

Lindsey Stirling - Transcendence.

Searched out this video in particular because her backing orchestra is a group called Landfill Harmonic - a bunch of impoverished teens from Paraguay who make their own instruments out of trash from the local landfill.

As a huge Steve Miller fan during his hey day in the 70's, this song was never really known until much later... I had the Book of Dreams album but compared to Fly Like an Eagle, I was disappointed and let it fade away

It wasn't until much later did I re-listen and learned to appreciate that album and particularly this song

Thanks for the reminder

Indeed..Jimi was the zen alien master..never to be equaled 8)
Tal is am exceptional player...for better or worse Jeff's current lineup features Rhonda Smith, another great bassist. I feel the change was more "cosmetic" than talent wise. The thing I've always loved about Jeff is that I dug him in the 60's, 70's, 80's......etc. He has constantly evolved into new styles unlike some of his
still phenomenal peers such as Eric Clapton & Jimmy Page. SRV....pure emotion, a shame we lost him :'(

Most VSIDO forum members are from U.S. And this is something they might not have heard before. In India popular music is dominated by movie scores. On average most Indian films will feature 10-12 songs. That's almost 50 minutes of music in a single movie ??? I know it is hard for most non-Indians to believe this. But I think Hollywood used to make many musicals and they were very popular from 1930s to early 1960s.
Here is one such movie song from a 1971 movie. Enjoy! Cheers!!!

Every one here has excellent and eclectic taste that I truly admire... I love all music, there is very very little that I will not listen to (anything that advocates direct violence to any person, sex, race creed etc etc...)

I have all of my favorite albums on my Nexus now and use them for practicing golf, which can be boring as hell, a monotonous litany of 'to correct incorrect habits one must do it correctly at least 300 times"... having the albums lets me pass two hours of that in a heartbeat... It is fun on both levels

At the Rat Man... Dick Cavats dry sense of humor and style was something I admired... he never seemed rattled

I first heard them on a House or Bones episode, something like that... I listened to a few of their songs and forgot about them

I then saw them interviewed by Nic Harcourt on Guitar Center Sessions and I must admit I was blown away by the simplicity of their style and methods to create incredibly good music.

Sarah Barthel live has one of the most incredible voices I have ever heard.  Their passion is something I think other bands could learn from as well

If you can find the Guitar Center Session anywhere with them, I would highly recommend hearing what they have to say

BTW, I feel just about the same way about Phantogram as I do about Goo Goo Dolls or Jackson Browne... very good, very gifted and shares powerful and meaningful messages with us through great music

hope it's not some release so they can make some bucks in their senior years.

^ According to everything I have gleaned from the various release notes, this is material that David and Richard Wright worked on several years before Richards death and influenced heavily by Richard Wright's own work.  This work was done in 1994, Wright died in 2008

Sounds more like a tribute to a lost mate and I have a good inkling that Gilmour will not fail in delivering a great piece of work

5:02 am, 26/07/2014, saturday, alarm in the old but faithful Nokia rings and hakerdefo painfully leaves his bed and after half an hour he is at the railway station of  his little sleepy town. Flying Ranee Express (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flying_Ranee) bound towards Mumbai (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mumbai) from the city of Surat (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surat) is right on time as usual.
10 am in the coastal town of Daman (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daman,_Daman_and_Diu) and hakerdefo is already 4 Beers down.
After a few more Beers and some light lunch hakerdefo is ready for the hard part. He buys two bottles of Wild Turkey (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wild_Turkey_(bourbon)) and takes a cab that will get him to the railway station of Vapi (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vapi) hopefully without him being caught at the border check point between Daman and the state of Gujarat since home state of hakerdefo, Gujarat (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gujarat) proscribes the manufacture, storage, sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages. In plain English hakerdefo is bootlegging. It's a dangerous thing but hey, that's life.
Saturday evening, a glass of bourbon whiskey in hakerdefo's hands and smokey, bluesy strains of John Hiatt's latest album in the air, this saturday couldn't have been better!
Cheers!!!

Wow... I have not thought of The Tubes since the early 80's when Talk To Ya Later was to make them as big as anyone ... Never happened though

Back then I was working with severely and profoundly mentally handicapped people...

One guy was David who had at least 9 personalities... as one of them he would tuck his face into a cruddy t-shirt and with only his evil eyes showing (and glittering) say (in a voice like Jack Nicholson) " I am going to cut you up in little pieces and put you in a jar and then look at you"

What a long strange trip it has been...

What do you get for writing songs that were better than even Bob Dylan?
Three decades of obscurity, poverty and back-breaking construction work.
The guy in question Rodriguez made a couple of records in 1970-71 that are as good as any album recorded in last 50 years in U.S. but you won't find them in any record store in America!
In 2012 a documentary on Rodriguez by a young swedish guy named Malik Bendjelloul was released. That documentary help popularise music of Rodriguez.
It was Malik's first film of any sort and it went onto win almost every award out there including Academy, Bafta, Sundance. Malik committed suicide a year later.

@jedi @VastOne glad you guys liked the music and the movie. A big irony here is the case of Malik Bendjelloul; Malik told the story of an artist who never got what he deserved, in doing so Malik got everything he deserved. End of the day the one who never got anything is still alive and the one who got everything is dead!
Cheers!!!

From the 1969 album "The Allman Brothers Band". Written by Greg Allman.

Just one more mornin'
I had to wake up with the blues
Pulled myself outta bed, yeah
Put on my walkin' shoes,
Went up on the mountain,
To see what I could see,
The whole world was fallin',
Right down in front of me.

Who was he referring to?
Who else but George Harrison. His guitar riff turns this average ballad into a timeless classic,

Jeff Beck is someone whom I'll call a guitarist's guitarist. Pink Floyd after Syd's departure thought of asking Jeff to join but Waters was too scared to ask!Jimmy Page once told Ron Wood 'Well, there's
no one better than Jeff, is there?'.
Here is Jeff Beck live from legendary Ronnie Scott's.

Hey hakerdefo !

Yeah, my first major guitar influence was JB in the Yardbirds and I guess it left an indelible bookmark in my brain.
I've played guitar on and off since my teen years (happily more "on" lately) and really appreciate class players of which there are many....my music library explodes with gigabytes
of content. The memory of my lifetime was meeting the legendary Les Paul after one of his Monday shows at a club called Fat Tuesday in New York and having him autograph the Les Paul cd box set that  I'd recently received as a gift from my wife. And yes, the Ronnie Scott/Beck show dvd is one of my prized possessions 8)

@Packrat & VastOne, I have been a big fan of Robin Trower since the early 1970's. Saw Poco Harum in 1968,  it was the first time I heard Robin Trower's guitar.  Became a big fan, still listen often. Never did get to ever see Trower again in concert. Favorite album would be "Bridge of Sigh's" . Today it's Saturday and up early, Richie Blackmore is on the with a compilation of Rainbow and Deep Purple. -zephyr

The current lead singer is from Manila; Loved By You was released when Steve Augeri was the lead singer - he sounds a lot like Steve Perry, pretty sure that is him singing for this video.

Santana - Greg Rollie - Neil Schon & Co. reunite for concert in Las Vegas (I think there is reunion album in the works)

"Loved By You" is sung by Steve Augeri. Augeri sung on "Arrival" & "Generations". He was replaced by Filipino singer Arnel Pineda on the next two albums "Revelation" and "Eclipse". First three albums by Journey featured Gregg Rolie as the lead singer. Steve Perry joined Journey on their fourth album "Infinity" and remained as the chief vocalist till "Trial by fire".
Cheers!!!

Good ones hakerdefo...

The Outlaws were an awesome Southern Rock band that originated in Tampa Fl.. they influenced another band that I like from that era Molly Hatchet... This is actually an Allman Brothers original song Dreams written by Gregg Allman

Nice mix of music - for whatever reasons, that southern rock made me think of this album; a lesser known and underrated effort from Elton John before he was uber famous:

Wow PackRat! Very nice and oddly enough, I've been in a 'Cowboy Junkies' mood myself for the last few days! Margo Timmins has an extraordinary talent.  I've seen them twice, both times in a small venue.  They performed at the "Slippery Noodle" once in Indianapolis for a small group of us (about 45 people), and it was the most amazing "live" performance of any artist I've ever saw.  Afterwards, they mingled with all of us and it was as if they were just one of the 'regular' people.  I'll never forget it.

For several years now Tubular Bells has been my ringtone.. A classic song associated forever with it's counterpart Blatty's Exorcist

I still consider it one of the scariest things I have ever read and absolutely the scariest thing I have ever seen... Times were so different in the early 70's.  No one had seen anything like this on any format and I distinctly remember people running for theaters and screaming in absolute terror watching this film

Great loss

hi ozitraveller with Emily
that is a memory of attending Rainbow concert -a drum solo into Smoke on the Water had the drummer bouncing drumsticks off the drums into the audience until he was playing the drums with just his hands; it was awesome drum solo, to say the least, so much a high energy moment. I cannot remember that drummer's name; who had a reputation for doing that kind of act in the deep purple drumming arena?

^ Sucks.. I am amazed at this and I personally do not think these are suicides and that there is something else in play

Not someone causing harm to them (Chris Cornell also) but that these ex major drug users have found something in auto erotica or a strange game that makes them think they are high? I don't know, just very very weird
Title: Re: Just listened to
Post by: PackRat on July 22, 2017, 02:30:44 PM
^ I also wonder about the auto erotica / asphyxia high too after what happened to David Carradine.

But I think a lot of this is related to the anti depressent drugs in use today. Those drugs are way to powerful now and seem to render people sort of null and void. Heard too many horror stories from others whose friends or relatives were taking them. Didn't want users of them on construction sites; there was some talk of banning them. Might actually test for them in pre-emplyment screening now.

Im a huge blues fan but, although I had heard John Mayer and knew he was good, his pop music kinda ruined it for me.
Now, I have two twenty year old musicians that are as close to children as I will probably ever have. They decided they wanted to see John Mayer and they talked me into going because it was three shows in one:

1) With his full band
2) John Mayer trio
3) Acoustic

I figured just seeing the trio would make it worth fighting the crowds so I handed over the $450 for three tickets as close as we could get.

While his pop music still isnt what I would listen to daily, I will listen to him live any chance I can get. That boy can play a guitar! I officially became a fan that night.

hehe, my 18 year old daughter just returned from a weeks stay in Boston (at a hostel?).  Of all bands to go see she had to see the 'Gorillaz'!  It was the trip of a lifetime for her and she loved every minute of it. (she also paid for all 3 tickets which were up front in the covered pavillion).  One of the friends she was trying to help out bailed at the last second, so she was a little upset about the 300 bucks she wasted.  She said she'd do it again though, so she had a really good time.  Nice to see you around still lwfitz! :)

Listening to some new music from Tarkslayer (Lord Melkor)

       Iarnă Vampirică  (Vampiric Winter) (https://tarkslayer.bandcamp.com/album/iarn-vampiric)

If you remember Dobbie03 from #!, BunsenLabs, and/or ArchLabs, Lord Melkor is the pseudonym for his oldest son. Living the dream and now has two albums out.

It's hard to do as well as an original but Joss Stone did it IMO

Understatement of the Month Award.

Paul Rodgers first album of new material in 25 years; pretty good, has a mid-to-late Bad Co. (1975-1978) vibe to it:

I didn't know Rodgers had some serious health issues -

David Gilmour and his daughter Romany (playing harp)-

that's Gilmour's wife in the center and her son from her first marriage. From David's "Von Trapped Family" videos they made during the covid lockdown. One of Gilmour's daughters and randchild is also present in some of the other videos.

I took a chance on The Promised Land based on some stellar reviews of the film I read here on IMDB (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt20561198/reviews/?ref_=ttrt_sa_3) and they were not at all wrong

A disturbing look at what we can do to one another in a #fascist world, and it's not at all about that, just my take on it.

I highly recommend seeing this film, it won't disappoint you
