Title: ISO size
Post by: mrneilypops on October 11, 2013, 12:00:21 PM
Hi VastOne,
Congratulations on Velociraptor release!  8)

I am still messing with my Debian Sid/Awesome distro release and I am wondering how to minimize the ISO size.
I have tried bleachbit and localepurge but get stuck at about 800MB ISO size.

Are there some deep cleaning tips I might be missing?

Cheers,
Neil

Hi mrneilypops and thanks!

What are you using to remaster?
Are you using -xy comp?
Is it a base system?
What apps are do you have as default?

Here is a link for discussions on removing cruft that helped quite a bit recently (http://vsido.org/index.php?topic=538.msg6495#msg6495)

Refracta snapshot;
http://distro.ibiblio.org/refracta/files/Refracta_Tools/ (http://distro.ibiblio.org/refracta/files/Refracta_Tools/)

I did manage to get to around 700MB with my earlier Jessie 'distrolet'.
I have now moved to Sid as a base with Awesome WM.
There are not many default apps...(about the same as in my Jessie test).
I am using -xy comp (Refracta set up option)

Thanks for the link that was just what I was after  8)
SUB 700MB would be great... I will keep you updated.

I dabbled with refracta but could never get it to remaster to the same size as remastersys on the same system.  It was always 100 MiB larger than remastersys and I was never able to solve why...

Good luck!
