Hey guys (girls will follow soon)
Since i am not that much a fan of icons or desktops, i use a tiling wm called i3
Heres a shiny scrot :
(http://ompldr.org/taDJybA) (http://ompldr.org/vaDJybA)
It's very dynamic and customizeable, and as you can see i like stuff simple, therefore no "bling"
^ Very nice dizzie!
I am thinking of adding i3 as a WM on the next ISO's
Awesome look dizzie. Gonna have to try this out...

If needed i'll share my .i3status.conf (the bottom right thingie) and thank you!
Put this in/as ~/.i3status.conf :
general {
# output_format = "dzen2"
# colors = true
interval = 5
}
order += "disk /home"
order += "load"
order += "cpu_usage"
order += "ethernet eth0"
order += "time"
ethernet eth0 {
# if you use %speed, i3status requires the cap_net_admin capability
format_up = " E: %ip @ %speed "
format_down = " E: down "
}
time {
format = "%d-%m-%Y %H:%M:%S"
}
cpu_usage {
format = " CPU Usage: %usage "
}
load {
format = " CPU Load: %5min "
}
disk "/home" {
format = "Home - Used: %used / Free: %free "
}
Re: time/date = You goody americans gotta change it to month/day/year :)
Some tweaking... 8)

Nice!
I see you have no issues running inxi (without sudo). Did you have to adjust anything?

Not at all, could be a xfce bug (didnt have it it OB either)
mmmmmm mmm mmMMMmm!
* rolls around in i3's niceness *
mmm *lick lick* nice wm!
i3 is an inspiration. no, literally, it inspires me. i've taken many cues from it for my "tabular boonad", and still have many more ideas from i3 i'd like to implement yet.
Update :

Basking in my i3 accomplishment today! Got a lot figured out last night and am really enjoying the WM!!! Not "all figured out" mind you, but well on the way!

Another shot from 5:15 am! No sleep, but sleep is highly overrated. I'll sleep when I'm dead. i3 is too fun to sleep!!! You should all be giving it a try... ;D

6 cores makes a hell of a lot of a difference 8)
Some more i3 -
Tabbing is so much better than tiling :)

For vastone - well, anyone really.
pretty much stock i3 config file - the documentation on the i3 site is awesome. Some changes to the default keybindings; I use a fluxbox-fvwm baseline for my key bindings to save on my aging memory.

a non-colored conky that doesn't require the JSON formatting works just fine.
The TCore0.sh for CPU temp - based on output from lm-sensors:
#!/bin/sh
sensors | awk '/Core 0/ {gsub(/\+/,"",$3); gsub(/\..+/,"",$3); print $3}'
I thought this was quite interesting too. ;)

1. I use CHROMIUM, don't like that browser, fix it using your favorite editor (mine is vim, but nano or medit works too)
2. My terminal of choice is URXVT, don't like that terminal, fix it using your favorite editor (mine is vim, but nano or medit works too)
3. My COLOURS are set in .Xdefaults, don't like? Don't use :)
4. My font of choice is INCONSOLATA, don't like, don't use :)
5. Added my .conkyrc as a bonus, because that's how I roll 8)

Thanks for the tgz I'll give it a try when I get back home. ;)

Hi Dizzie

Common problem: Conky refuse to start because of my temp/fan readouts, So disable those lines with '#' if conky wont start.
And fix accordingly to your own system (run sensors-detect & sensorts in a terminal to see what needs to be changed)
Let me know if that becomes a problem and I will help with a fix :)
Hi Dizzie
I have a number of boxes and so tend to have the same conky everywhere which is fairly minimal and don't setup the sensors.
:)
Ozi
git clone https://github.com/dizzie/git-home
I made it easier :)
Ok dizzie you've convinced me. I'll create a vm to try out i3, a nice clean debian. ;)
Is there any difference between i3 in stable, testing and sid?
Not to my knowledge
Interesting. :)
What is ?
@ozitraveller
the i3 version in debian stable is 4.2.x, testing and sid have 4.6.x - there were several changes between those versions; xft font support being one as well as some feature enhancements for container management.
if you want to live on the edge, there is a debian repo you can add to get the latest development release -> http://i3wm.org/docs/repositories.html (http://i3wm.org/docs/repositories.html)
As promised in the screenshot thread (and yes I know this is a VERY old thread, and I don't care)
In the xz file is :
- conkyrc's (top and bottom) for a single screen system
- stuff that runs the conkyrc's (~/bin)
- My .Xdefaults for colors and fonts for use with most terminals (I use rxvt)
- My .vimrc cause I am nice
- My mc (midnight commander) colors (that matches the rest)
You're welcome :)

Has anyone tried swaywm and i3 alternative?
I've heard about it, but I like my i3 like i like my coffee, strong and compact :D
I couldn't get the wlc dependency to build on my system- comolained about some other missing dependencies as I recall.
I don't think wlc is in the debian repos either, unless it's packaged under a different name.
I don't think I would switch over either, there's not a significant enough difference to change and wayland is still green.
I wouldn't switch either; I was just looking for a window manager to run in wayland to see if i could actually accomplish anything.
Did you have any joy with that?
Minimal.
Enlightenment runs on wayland so I was using that, and weston will be a decent wm when it's finished.
X-apps don't work to well, and I had issues with the mouse and/or keyboard locking up all the time.
There may be some reconfigurations I could have tried, but I didn't dig too deep into setting up wayland. I just wanted a preview.
I suspect waykand and Xorg will coexist for quite a while even after wayland is released for production.
I've seen other comments lately with locking issues too, but interesting to see where they are at and a feel for how things work. :)
dropping my current config here (Because this forum's bb codes work!)
