Which does VSIDO use? In the smxi tutorial, VastOne made mention to adding the Liquorix kernel sources and choosing Debian or Liquorix. How do I know which one I have?
If I have the Debian kernel, do I want to run the Liquorix?
Info on my machine:
-Version-
Kernel : Linux 3.7-trunk-amd64 (x86_64)
Compiled : #1 SMP Debian 3.7.8-1~experimental.1
C Library : Unknown
Default C Compiler : GNU C Compiler version 4.7.2 (Debian 4.7.2-5)
Distribution : VSIDO 1_2
thanks,
J
uname -r in terminal
Is the best to tell you your kernel
VSIDO comes default with the latest Experimental based Debian kernel
smxi, as great as it is, does not look or see from the experimental repo... So if you choose debian in smxi, it will backtrack you to the latest Sid debian kernel, 3.2.5 I believe..
Most of us run the Liquorix kernel... With the stuff you are working on, I would definitely use smxi to get the latest Liquroix to test..
Remember that smxi does not delete your existing kernel when it installs Liquorix, so you can always go back to it
Let me know how it goes and good luck ;)
You will note from your info that you have
Debian 3.7.8-1~experimental.1
Which is not very far behind the 3.7.10 that Liquorix is now at... But do not be confused at all by revision numbers... Liquorix is a totally different compile than the debian kernel
The reasons I use Liquorix is
Faster
Quieter
Leaner
Uses less ram
Uses less cpu
Is well maintained
Works great on all multimedia need I have and use
+1 On what VastOne said.
I've been running Liquorix since I've read VastOne's first HowTo on the #! forums and haven't had any problems.
I do a lot of data recovery/disc cloning as well as graphics work and Liquorix has been more stable than any Windows OS I've ever run.

Exactly what I needed to know!!!
I'm going to give it a try and I'll report back any significant performance changes.
Thanks!!!

Did the upgrade to the Liqourix kernel.
Did some stress testing.
Found a glitchy DDR2.
Pulled a pair DDR2. (may have been the cause of an impromptu crash a few days ago!)
Reran tests to verify solid hardware.
Opened Iceweasel, Digikam, Gimp, bash, Synaptic, and SpaceFM.
Really,REALLY solid performance from a 6 year old machine. This has to be the best OS I have ever had, bar none! ;D
Now I need to find another stick of DDR2 to bring it back up to 8GB to be back in top form. ;)
Gotta build that new machine!!!
Awesome distro VastOne... Kudos!
Thanks
J
Nice... and thank you!
I appreciate the feedback and kind words.. I happen to like this OS too! ;D
Now, onto your avatar.. Is that you playing? I play guitar and piano...

Yep... that's me about 10 years ago. A friend of mine snap that pic while I was struggling to keep up.
I'm playing an Ibanez acoustic, also have an Ibanez Musician electric. Like my photography, I'm the definition of amateur in amateur guitarist! :-[
Have a good ear tho! And my music tastes are super eclectic. Anything of yours online I can listen to?
Thanks again for the help!

↑ bet you dollars to donuts, cakes and cookies there soon will be.
;)
^ Nope... I like to play live and will play anywhere, but recording it and putting it online is not going to happen
I'll take the donuts! Double Chocolate please! ;D
↑ Bummer, I was looking forward to hearing something?
Will that be glazed or plain ... we serve nothing short of a bakers dozen.
Since the aptosid repros are in the default sources.list after install and inital updates, I did a manual install of the Kernel and got the 3.8 aptosid kernel.
No problems, whatsoever.
