Title: VSIDO Debian ISO updated
Post by: VastOne on February 13, 2013, 04:22:06 PM
I have updated, built, tested and uploaded a new VSIDO ISO

The major change is replacing wicd with ceni.  I also was able to get the size back down of the ISO

For those of you using wired connections, /etc/network/interfaces and /etc/resolv.conf will handle your Internet connection OOTB as long as your device is eth0

For wireless, there is a ceni How To here (http://vsido.org/index.php/topic,185.msg2274.html#msg2274) that jedi put together.  Thanks jedi!

If there are any issues with the install please let us know

Good Luck!

I have added a menu item on the Download VSIDO page so users can click directly to the ceni How To

I have modified the VSIDO Installation Guide page to include the ceni How To link also

Holyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy VSIDO!!

In under 1 hour 30 minutes I used wg2 (wget limited to 200KB/s) I have:
(http://t.imgbox.com/adm6XdCo.jpg) (http://imgbox.com/adm6XdCo)

This, other than step 3 above, is an out of the box experience with a wired connection on ETH0
... and what an experience it is!

Would it be possible to update the ISO date on the download page so I can keep track?

OK, this just gets easier and easier!  Latest iso installed, setup and working with no issues at all!!!  Fastest install yet.  See pic for proof;

(http://en.zimagez.com/miniature/5mininstall.png) (http://en.zimagez.com/zimage/5mininstall.php)

Found a goof in the next to the last step of the How To on the 'ceni', corrected that, and all went very well.  Was telling it to use 'hot plug' and 'removable devices' as seen here before edit to fix the How To;

(http://www.zimagez.com/miniature/ceni70.png) (http://www.zimagez.com/zimage/ceni70.php)

Changed that and updated the scrot to reflect the correct choice to make when setting up 'ceni' as seen here;

(http://www.zimagez.com/miniature/ceniauto.png) (http://www.zimagez.com/zimage/ceniauto.php)

I'm now wondering if this was the 'issue' when 'testing' this the last time...  Oh well, it works perfectly now and is a very sweet install process!

I have to agree with jedi here, with an addition: this just gets better and better and easier and easier!!

^hey my sda7 has exactly the same label, and I have been unable to get rid of it!!!  Too funny!  VastOne 'tagging' all his computer conquests!!!  Probably a thousand "sda7's" out there with his 'tag' on them!!!  :D ??? :D

I appreciate all the compliments!  :o

Thanks...

As far as the label, gparted works very well relabeling as long as the partition is not mounted ...  ;D

I have started the process of moving Linux-Lex off of the ISO and onto the vsido-welcome script.  It knocked the ISO size below 650 MiB ... the smallest it has ever been

As soon as I finish testing the build to make sure it looks fine without the icons on Live-CD, and script the download of Linux-Lex, dark faenza and whatever fonts falldown uses and any other requests, I will release it

As far as that label and how it got there. I am stumped as to why it got there when nothing from fstab is supposed to be transfered in the process.  It is one of my old config testing partition labels and should not be there.

I'll make sure of it on the next one...

Actually, it is my autograph and is valued in some places...  :P  :'(  ???

Sorry jst_joe...

I am just finishing up the upload of a new one.. try again in 15 minutes and you will be good to go...

It will be worth the wait, 609 MiB in size... a couple of issues with icons that need fixing, I will post on that later

Thanks!
I've got an extra 64GB SSD I want to try this on.  :)

Awesome build VastOne.  Fastest install for me yet.  5 minutes 5 seconds!  8)
(pic to prove it?)  I know I heard that somewhere before...

(http://en.zimagez.com/miniature/5mininstall0.png) (http://en.zimagez.com/zimage/5mininstall0.php)

Install was effortless, fast, wireless was a breeze using Ceni.... What's not to love?

^ I did locate and correct the source of the Autograph issue...

I have also corrected the icon issue from the previous build... I have left Linux-lex8 as part of the install

The new ISO is 646 MiB, I can live with this

I am testing an install of it now and when it is finished I will upload the ISO.  All should be completed in 90 minutes... 1:30 CST

Ran the installer on the SSD this evening everything went without a hiccup, enabled trim and set up some tweaks from this post by mynis01 (http://crunchbang.org/forums/viewtopic.php?id=13129) on the #! forum.
Ran smxi and got the 3.7.0-8.dmz.1-liquorix-amd64 kernel, damn this is fast from hitting enter at the grub menu to a login screen is about 5 seconds.
The only problem I can tell is, I can't see any boot errors it just flashes.   :D

[edit] for typo

Great to hear that jst_joe, well done ...  8)

I have found that with the latest ISO, the boot time is blazing fast even without a trimmed up SSD

:D

^ Sure, pop my SSD bubble!  :'(
Just kidding.  :)
I've also noticed programs like gimp, libreoffice4, iceweasel and others don't even hesitate.

^ I did locate and correct the source of the Autograph issue...

I would have changed it. "Welcome to VSIDO" and left it for people with an sda7 partition!  8)

I'll have to test it you know, but I just upgraded my system with the build prior to this.  Is there that much difference in the running that it would justify starting from scratch again?
Title: Re: VSIDO Debian ISO updated
Post by: VastOne on February 16, 2013, 04:42:34 PM
No.. There is nothing new on the ISO worth starting from scratch..

It was a 'cleanup on aisle number 5' build

{grabbing a mop and a bucket} ... what isle again?

OK, that's cool because I'm just gutting this build setup nicely with only one nasty thorn that has been an issue right through since the beginning of my using #!.
