Title: Known Working Hardware
Post by: lwfitz on February 07, 2013, 08:09:36 PM
Post here with known working hardware and what, if any, work arounds/fixes were needed

This machine is a custom built and worked 100% OTB and is my main machine I use while working at home

Update:

If you have inxi installed then you can use

sudo inxi -Fz -c24

and that will give you an output similar to mine. If you want to know more about inxi you can check out Sector11's Post  (http://vsido.org/index.php/topic,21.0.html)

Shhhhhhhh I'm slow   :D

Besides I'm busy testing a new USB install and wondering why nvidia-settings works perfectly with that and not with my default install.

My system is based from a Dell Studio XPS8000, then custmized and upgraded with various items, all that is left from the original system is the mobo and cpu, and I have updated the bios to the latest version, still looking for a custom Bios to flash onto this thing to unlock it.

Everything worked out of the box, though I did install my custom kernel, and the Nvidia prop. drivers, which did require some finesse due to the location of where my custom kernels put the header files, so unless you use a custom kernel, they should install just fine for you.

Here's my first custom built box, from about a month ago. Previously, I had a dual-core Athlon 64X2 HP, which has lasted for about 4 years. It'll now be my roommates. I wanted at least a quad core for the build, and couldn't pass up the 6 core when I saw it. I'm of modest means and the tax refund would only go so far ;)  I went with the ECS mobo, just because the HP had one, and I knew it could take an environmental beating.
