Hi Folks
in dire need of your assistance. I have been trying for days now to get xsane to run correctly with no success. I have been doing a lot of reading but not been able to figure it out.
I have installed " Argyll icc profiles, Gnome color manager " and purged and reinstalled xsane and sane several times and also looked for other scanner drivers all to no avail.
I have also updated VSIDO.
Sorry forgot to add the error messages.
Error during cms conversion
Error could not open scanner icm profile
Error could not create transform.
I think there was one other to do with icc but can't remember
any help please :( :(
I hate Xsane, it has never worked right for me.
What type of scanner?
See if your scanner is recognized:
scanimage -L
If it doesn't work the first time, run that command with "sudo". You may have to detach and re-attach the scanner.
If your scanner is recognized, try scanning from the command line:
scanimage --format=png --output-file test.png --progress
In all honesty, I gave up on Xsane/sane. Does your scanner support inserting removable media like a thumbdrive or sd card? I always just scan to the media and go from there.
Sane at ArchWiki (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/SANE)

Hi PackRat.
Straight into a problem.
Ran scanimage as root and
" bash: scanimage: command not found "
I have a printer scanner, Brother MFC-J6520DW.
Any other scanner drivers that you know about that might work ?
scanimage should be part of the sane package. If the command isn't there, then sane isn't installed or it's not on your $PATH.
No you will need the proper drivers (64 or 32 bit) for your scanner. If you want 32-bit drivers on a 64-bit system, you'll need to install the 32-bit compatibility packages. The Brother site where you can get drivers for Linux walks you through the various install processes.
This your scanner? - (https://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadlist.aspx?c=us&lang=en&prod=mfcj6520dw_us_eu_as&os=128)you will want all the deb packages and that install tool.
Well.
Reinstalled all the drivers as per website all to no avail, still getting cms errors.
There must be something else missing so all that I can think of doing is a complete reinstall of VSIDO and see if that cures it
Do you have another computer to test the scanner?
Unfortunately no but never mind i have given up on sane / xsane and found another scanning software Skanlite which does all that i want it to do anyway.
Once again PackRat thanks for all your time and help, very much appreciated :) :)
No problem.
Is skanlite in the repos?
Hi PackRat
Yep downloaded and installed using apt-get :)
