Our friend misko_2083 has discussed it on another forum (https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/other/vboxclient-the-virtualbox-kernel-service-is-not-running/msg19295/#msg19295) and has a solution

^ The VSIDO Volume Control app

File name is menu.py runs from /usr/local/bin in fluxbox startup

It is the gtk Volume Control for tint2 (http://vsido.org/index.php?topic=1097.msg12302#msg12302) created by misko_2083

Google knows too much about me :D
Anyway, that was a quick fix, removing guest utils will do the job. No need for that on metal.
sudo apt purge virtualbox-guest-x11 virtualbox-guest-utils virtualbox-guest-dkms
