Looks to be a patch on that page you linked - did you follow up on that?

Otherwise, you'll have to:

1. find an app that will sit in the system tray you're using - like xfce4-power-manager
2. use tint2 as the panel and use it's battery plugin
3. lxpanel has a battery plugin
4. add battery status to the default conky <-- this would be the simplest solution

lots of options, figure out how how you want to configure your user interface/system and set it up.

You'll most likely have to go with xfce4-power-manager, or try something like these -

I'm sure there are others. For the first one, I don't remember if upower is installed by default; it's in the repos.

I haven't tried either of those; that patch seems to be a bit hit-and-miss based on some other forum posts I read.

Aye... there are just so many more options in tint2... lxpanel is nice and may be easier for the brand new user, but tint2 is so much more functional and easy to learn

As a "Community" driven distro, the decision was made to return to Tint2 as the default panel for VSIDO.  For many reasons.
Not to sound snarky or like I'm picking on you, this is with no offense intended, if you want fbpanel, then a simple 'apt-get install fbpanel' should pull it in for you.  The beauty of Linux is that in the end, we can really have it exactly how we want it.
There is no way to make every user 100% happy by installing automatically every app that user wants installed.  If this were so, it wouldn't be called VSIDO.
As a matter of fact, not having fbpanel installed is a great opportunity for you to learn something about Linux!  The instructions above should get you most if not all the way there!  Thanks, have fun...

but should work just fine with fbpanel or lxpanel system tray. Works just fine with fluxbox native iconbar and systray -
