It has been far too long since I have posted...

No doubt, same here.  Not even sure if I've posted a scot this year.  Shame on me.  I am still involved everyone believe it or not and stay in touch with VastOne.  May your golfing career be as long as since the day you began to play till now!!!  ??? (inside joke?  nahhhh it's pathetic...)

So, haven't been in the computer game much this year.  Took the year off you might say.  At the beginning of the year a new laptop was purchased for the first time since 2014 or '15, not sure.  As you'll quickly be able to tell it is a MacBook Pro and my first one ever.  I'm totally blown away by it and love it and mostly blame Linux for that!  8). Course now that GMB might be back, we'll have to see about getting that running cross environment and going on the Mac!  Yup still type too much...

Lets keep powering forward and not let this pandemic get us down!

There's a pandemic?  What kind? (just kidding of course)  I hope all you fellow VSIDO'ans are staying safe and healthy.

VSIDO News & Announcements / Long live VSIDO
February 29, 2020, 03:15:08 AM
So, read up everyone!  In theory, this marks the 12th year for VSIDO.  A long life for any distro, imo.  When you toss in the fact that VSIDO has been here through thick and thin, always maintained by one solitary individual from the very beginning makes it a really special distro indeed.  Long live VSIDO, long live FOSS!

To a special friend, I hope you have the best birthday this year that you've ever had!  This has been a tremendous journey, and I'm so glad our travels have just begun!  Long live the "VastOne"!  (quick edit: I know it's not till tomorrow, but hey sometimes it's not for years!!! FOR REAL!!!)

I know it's the scrot thread, I just wanted to say I'm almost sick over the loss of GMB.  Somebody please do something.  Quodlibet is ok, but certainly no replacement to the serious media player that was GMusicBrowser...  jmho

Such a reliable OS, I've posted almost all the scrots I can imaginatively post!  So much has happened since that summer in 2012!  Yet looking back at the scrots, same ole reliable system.  OK, summer is over up here (for a month or so now) so perhaps some more time on the computer?  We'll see.

I have a new "Man Cave" here to enjoy this winter!  Over the course of the summer we moved back to the lake house, so lots of changes life style wise.  Have already taken some great pics of the wildlife that I'll try to post shortly.  This is such a beautiful place, sometimes I can hardly believe this is where I live!  At the foot of Quoggy Jo Mountain, and on the edge of Echo Lake.  It just doesn't get any better than that.  Totally not true as I'd gladly trade for a more tropical clime...  (in a tent)

VSIDO Discussions / Re: An Idea
July 29, 2019, 07:37:06 PM
Hello Gordon, I am not VastOne!  Ceni is installed with VSIDO and must be run as 'root' from the terminal.  It has no graphical user insterface (GUI) and is why you're getting the 'child process' error I would think.  VSIDO was not originally designed for wireless although it has always had the tools to get wireless to work!  ???

Depending on the laptop I've used (many) wireless has been available with VSIDO from the beginning.  However, that said, you did sometimes have to jump through some hoops to get there.

After a new install, when the "vsido-welcome" script runs that first time, I simply hit 'Ctrl-T' for a new tab in the terminal, run Ceni as root through to completion of course, then switch back to the "vsido-welcome" script tab and all is well.  ;)

Feedback & Suggestions / Re: Vsido saved my day!
June 25, 2019, 08:34:03 PM
Unfortunately I failed to learn the lesson until about the fourth time of losing everything!   :'(  Thanks to VastOne for this "great recovery tool" as you guys are calling it, or, as I like to refer to it, my "GoTo" or the best OS I've ever personally ran!  Since at least the summer of 2012 I'd say.  This is by far the longest period of time running the same OS!  And, most of the time, now, I just plug in the 4Tb hdd and pick and choose which .fsa file to restore!  I do one every few days now unless I'm doing something special and I've been know to create an .fsa file every hour or so.  My OS, (VSIDO) is actually loaded with tools I don't even know are there!  ???

However, that said, word has it that I know the owner!!!  So not only has VSIDO the OS personally saved my data life, the guy that created it has step by stepped me through untold and countless errors or breakages of my own design as well!  And the community still here is a pretty impressive FEATURE not mentioned often enough 'cough cough' PackRat and company!

Long live fsarchiver!

@jed - you still have snow in the shady areas?

Not for a couple of weeks now!!!  I would have already been moved in with you down there had there still been snow.   ??? Our first 70F day finally came May 28th I believe.  Haven't had one since of course...  :'(

:'( So @PackRat, there have been 4 more +70 (by a degree or two ususally) days since last I posted.  The most terrible and unfortunate news is that while walking the lake property across from the State Park  (we live on the opposite shore of the park), there is indeed still snow in the deep woods. It is not much and will be gone by this weekend I'd think.  I've talked to several other "Maine Guide/Game Warden" friends who all say this is the latest they've seen it on the ground, even in the 'big woods'!  :'(

Still pretty miserably cold up here in the 'nether' regions of Maine.  Most everyone lost their outdoor plants last night.  :'(

Still holding fast to my VSIDO though!  This scrot is from the goto (MSI).  The stinkpad is also still driving VSIDO, and has been up exactly 82 days 12 hrs.
