this month, i have mostly been making a new font.
(not really.  time split between many things... i just wanted to parody that old fastshow sketch a bit)
those who know me well, will know i can be a bit daft on the smallness of fonts... no really... i mean... 6pt is not small enough for me.  so be warned. XD
this is my first attempt at a non-bitmap font, and it was mostly made a bit slap-dash, minimally n over-simplistically, just to get it to fit tight pixel sizes.  maaaany refinements are yet to come.  http://ks392457.kimsufi.com/stuff/2015-03-13-210128_1398x260_scrot.png  ... the horror.  ^_^  right?
at least now i have splines to build from.  :)

mmmm.

just switched from cyanocobalamin source of vitamin b12 to methylcobalamin.  so much better.  five thuuuooooooosand mikes a day.  :)

nice to know i'm not adding to the cyanide in my system now too.   i already likely have fairly high levels from all the home made almond milk i drink most days.  n not to mention all that extra from the huge ammounts of cinnamon i have... n yeah, >99% of that cinnamon is cassia, not ceylon.  ... i should make the switch there too, like i've done with the methyl-b12 and d3.   ... and like i did with the magnesium too.  magnesium orotate rather than, whatever it was before that.

bio-availability, yo!  ;)

got a crazy regimen for keeping candida under control now.  loadsa coconut oil, grapeseed extract, rosemary cloves, n other stuff.

... now if only i could master the art of not going absolutely wild n gung-ho manic workaholic the moment i recoup an iota of energy after forcing myself into some r&r.

Quote+10 for Pluto
hehe.  i like that,
since pluto's the tenth primary body in our system.
(yes, the tenth.   10 pluto.  9 neptune.  8 oorrahnoos*.  7 saturn.  6 jupiter.  5 mars.  4 earth.  3 venus.  2 mercury.  1 sol.   hehe, see, i'm not crazy)
(*i'm spelling it more phonetically these days, tired of the old joke in the mispronunciation that many are starting to think is the correct pronunciation.)

ps, i wonder if there'll be stuff on http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/index.html
pps, mms shud b up there now too. http://mms.gsfc.nasa.gov/

I've Got a Life / wow... the sun!

:)  first day in many months i've been able to step outside without three extra layers, hats, scarf and pain.

glorious.   dont get many days like that here.

i mentioned this in an irc chan, with a friend elsewhere in the world reveling in the appearance of clouds in hope of rain.

the contrast amused me.

methinks i rly rather should have had these three mentioned from the start (presuming they existed when i started this) given their apparent awesomeness.   found them on prism-break.org.

sorry, i heard of this "15+ tabs" being depicted as "pushing browsers to the limit", and had to come running.

maybe the "+" is just understatement... but... try adding a couple zeros to that number and you're closer to the realms of pushing to the limits.

1500 tabs.

i've been there.

i'm raaaaaarely on less than 200 tabs,
(currently somewhere over 500... everything running as smooth as if i only had one open).

if 15 tabs is pushing some kind of browser limit for you, then i suggest you start taking better care of your browser, getting better addons, using better means to block superfluous unwanted content, and maybe even a hardware upgrade (though i remember being happy with 100+ tabs back in 2003 with a machine from 1998... even on my ancientware pentium 133 with 16mb of ram, i wouldnt even question opening over 15 tabs).   many times i'd open 15+ tabs in the space of a minute, to aid research flow.

so seriously...  this sense that 15 tabs is a lot, makes me think something is seriously lacking in your setup.

i hope this comes across as encouragement to the promised land, rather than just self aggrandizing.  you too can have a happier fuller browsing experience.

PS,
"I loathe the fact that the decision is being made for me. " me too, and do whatever i can to refuse.

in a hastey bumble i managed to give this a test.  here's a "short" round up of the relevant bits* of how it went.
~ for "tl;dr" installer review, see the bold quote at the end before the PS. ;)

booted nicely
Quoteahhhh.   past three weeks have been on nixos.  so nice to be back in something familiar n cushy.  :)

everything looks so plush. :)
gparted to check partitions, formatted an ext4 20gb.sudo /usr/bin/refractainstaller-yad

presented with two options, i wondered how simple the simple install is, and clicked expert.

proceeded through the dialog boxes effortlessly, all looked great.  solid.

only changes made to the installation options dialog were a tick added for: use existing swap; handle formatting/partitioning myself

was nice to see stuff scrolling by in the term.

took a little longer than old installer, but it's still very quick indeed, given how absurdly quick we're talking about for installation of a complete ootb system.
--^ you dont really notice it, unless maybe you have a stopwatch.  twas just a suspicion i had, which VastOne confirmed:  "about a minute slower".
Quoteold one seemed to sneeze n it was done. ...if a sneeze lasted as long as an ad-break.
:D

the one issue that might not have been pebkac, locales, somehow couldnt get it to actually be en_GB utf, despite it saying so everywhere i looked (and every config and command i could see mentioned on debian wiki locales page), despite a straight forward "dpkg-reconfigure locales" looking like it worked. conversation in irc suggests if this isnt pebkac (maybe from trimming), it'll get remedy posted and fixed (and what joyous potentials with pre-scripts n post-scripts with this installer). investigations shall continue on that one.  yay, foss in action.   (i'm bilingual with my keyboards anyway, aka "not bothered"(in daily use))

anyhoo.
here's my quick capsule review for the new installer:
Quote
the way this installer proceeds is more than ample intuitive.  "expert" sounds far too daunting and ominous for how fluffy n friendly it was.  ... maybe the "sudo as default" might get clicked by a noob, but i dont think there's really anything in it to get snagged on.   besides locale, heh.

PS
and a little personal update of my geekery:
there's been hella disruption in my systems these past couple months.  everything thrown up in the air.  my main workstation that had (and still HAS!(oops)) vsido, had a brief flash in the pan of running a quarantined new velociraptor hd just for windoze7&Elite:Dangerous (shant return to that game until they let us go down to planets), and has remained off since shortly after returning to vsido when then there was lightning galore for days.   thinking of making it a gentoo box again (now that it has such beastly hardware, i want to make the best of it, and dont mind putting in the time for it).  and this laptop...  ssd died (probably) dont wanna talk about it.  reminds me that my cinema external hd died too.  vsido got me out of a jam back when the sharn hit the fan weeks back.  better than system rescue did anyways (though it's going to be given a second chance to see what tricks it might have and what it can do to salvage what it can from my two dying hd).  heh.  low expectations there.
have got a new (old, got cheap on ebay) netbook that came with mint.  from this installation of vsido onto my tester box (has three partitions, the other two are a witch i was working on, and another vsido from a while back), i've realised vsido's perfect for this netbook (sry mint, even mate's a slug).  glad the netbook's gona be vsido ~ once fast sd card arrives.   ;)  glad i caught sight of the new installer to tempt me into trying another fresh one.  (the vsido on my workstation is still that first vsido i ever installed!)  :)

* pebkac edited out.  good grief was there a fair bit of clumsy on my part.  spray a little perseverance n joy-of-it, no bother.  all the more fun.
--(exception to "pebkac edit-out"^:  "\" seems not a wise password, even for a quick interim one.  "shadow mode")
----(clumsy scatter brain's good at unearthing weird things sometimes.  amen for "have a go, gung-ho!", ~ do you hear me, those of ye reading this who may still be newbie n timid?  come aboard the sid train, vsido station always available, choochoo!)
----(doesnt matter if you cock up an install anyways, VSIDO's so quick, you can throw them around and not have to be careful n frail with them)

i am so excited.  more excited than i've been for any other space mission.

next 6 months+ are gonna be exciting times... to finally get clear pictured of pluto and its (just?) 5 moons.

some day, we'll send out a probe to rendezvous with eris too.  :)  i bet it has undiscovered moons too.

i'm rather hoping for a nice clear shot showing the contrast between charon's dark grey, and pluto's reddish hues.

i've had an uneasy relationship with firefox for years, even since before their major versioning acceleration.  even ended up getting installed on a minimal system i had kept clean n minimal for over a year.   but for the iso, great, get rid.

midori's maybe the obvious choice (edit: and a worthy one at that ~ it seems to keep improving as the years go by), though i wonder if xombrero got considered.  (((or even dwb)?)).  quite plush, low-bloat (afaik), nice to use n grow with, and not too weird to begin with (which of course matters as the browser on the iso.)

so... this cd i hold in my hand is the last vsido to have fatfox.   :)  feels momentous n historic.

i know after a fresh vsido install i'll end up inevitably installing firefox myself, to varying degrees of reluctance, just as i would from any ground-up install from scratch i do myself, but glad to see this decision made. :)

awesome.  sox thread.

i'm a long time user of sox.

99% of the time, i just use it merely as:rec file.flac~ no options, and i just hit ctrl-c when i am done recording.... making sure to let it carry on recording for a good few seconds more if it's been a very long recording, or it tends to chop off the end.

sox's manpage reveals more of its many uses, and i tend to think of it almost like it's imagemagick for audio, but i love it best for being able to quickly jot down something i need in audio, really quick.   ... hrmmm, i suppose i could script n keybind it so that i dont even need to type "rec andwhatevernameihavetothinkupfirstbeforeihitrecord.flac", n get to rename it after the fact.  :)
