Maybe it's only my install, I really don't know, but Iceweasel is really slow at launch and takes longer in Vsido than in any other distro I use or used within the last months (either the weasel or the fox). I know that some guys put some effort in ultra fast browser launch for their distros (I cannot remember which one, but I remember in some cases being almost instant).

Any tips on making it faster. Not a major issue, of course. But, you know... we always want the stuff to fly.

General Support / Questions about SpaceFM
July 30, 2015, 01:16:47 PM
1- As default Vsido doesn't run the spacefm daemon at startup. What's the reason behind avoiding the daemon mode? Saving resources? I'm all curious.

2- I've seen in an antiX screencast that the different spacefm panes are selected just hovering over them instead of clicking (Fluxbox as the WM).  I'd like to have spacefm behaving like that. Is it a Fluxbox tweak or a spacefm thing?

General Support / What do you use for radio?
July 18, 2015, 08:40:49 AM
I use to have the classic jazz channel from jazzradio.com playing on Clementine in other systems, but I don't want to install clementine on vsido at first instance. Radiotray never worked good for me so I didn't even bothered to try. Tried cli radio and mplayer directly but cannot make this particular channel to play. Any tips?

Also, any recommendations about lightweight or cli radio players?

I guess all this would be irrelevant for US users, most of you I guess. But maybe I'm not the only non US resident suffering this issue with the Refracta installer.

As you surely know vsido has two different installers. That's cool. The new Refracta installer and the old one, the Remastersys installer still around by users request.

I prefer the Remastersys per se. but aside of features, options and personal preferences. Every time I use the Refracta installer I have issues with my locales and keyboard layout. It never gets right. But it's not a Vsido issue. It also happens in other distros using this installer like Makulu. I usually have to face the locales setup after the installation is complete, but sometimes it refuses to behave anyone. Currently I cannot set my locale to anything. I tried all the regular methods and some other tricks I've found in the web. No way. Nothing worked.

I constantly get messages like this:

Can't set locale; make sure $LC_* and $LANG are correct!

Any ideas on how to solve it?

So, for non US users, better use the Remastersys installer. Locales are properly set during the installation process and never had a problem. I swear every day since I decided to give the Refracta installer another go... Damnit!

The boss has been doing a lot of changes within the last releases such as the new muz and pmytd default app, the new ceni welcome/warning, the guest additions and sysvinit removal, etc... I wonder if shouldn't we have some sort of repo or at least a cloud to have all those scrpts, tools and goodies together and on hand for the users wanting to tweak their systems to match the changes, or some of them. We can always download the last isos and dive into the guts to find the needed stuff or changes, of course. But what about making it a bit more reachable? Maybe a dedicated repo is a bit too much for this.

Perhaps only a forum section with the needed links, files and howtos would be enough. In any case, making the new stuff and/or changes more reachable.

What you think guys?

I wouldn't mind to keep such a forum section up to date if you want it that way.

I forget things way faster than learning them. I think I managed to get this working once but I cannot remember how (if I ever did it)

Is there a way to get the xfce4-terminal centered when opened normal but on the top screen when opened as dropdown? The apps file is the one that always drives me crazy. The trickiest par of fluxbox IMHO.

Every few months I try to fully get rid of flash and using html5 only and I always fail... Nothing new.  :'(

I have three metal installs; Vsido, Linux Mint 17 + KXStudio repos and SolydXK (on Jessie, so about to become Stable but still Testing). Plus a nice bunch of virtual machines.

The thing is that both Vsido and LM17 are ok without flash. I can play youtube at 720p without issues. The same for other virtual machines not based on Debian stable or Testing. (Manjaro, Kaos, etc...) This time I setup a VM with solydK, enabled the dmo repos and installed the same multimedia packages present in Vsido. Tried to match the weasel settings in Solyd's Fox. No luck. Still having html5 running at 360p only. No way to change it. I cannot figure out what makes the difference.

As usual Vsido and other distros have this support according to you tube https://www.youtube.com/html5 (of course the default youtube html5 player is disabled in all of them. I just use the YouTube ALL html5 plugin and that's it) I use this page to check the supported formats.

And this is the result for SolydXK or any other DEbian based distro I've tried excepting Vsido:

The H.264 support keeps missing. That's the one. But I see no difference in installed packages or browser settings. What I am missing? Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

General Support / kmod breaks pppoe
March 12, 2015, 08:21:10 AM
What to do with this upgrade? Got a bug warning finally!  :P  It breaks pppoe. I made a clone of a vsido system into a virtual machine to check what it breaks, dist-upgraded (kmod included) and at boot some lines complained about the network but it scrolls too fast to read it properly. In the end the network still works fine. So, should I hold the package or forget about it and go ahead? I'm not sure if I'm using pppoe anyway. I'm far from a networking expert.

General Support / Bugs question
March 03, 2015, 08:55:35 AM
I know that during the freezing both jessie and Sid are getting steadier that usual, but I cannot remember how many weeks ago I got the last bug report from apt-list-bugs and reportbug. Is this normal? I mean, I upgrade Vsido daily and not getting a single warning?

General Support / vsido-exit issues
February 13, 2015, 12:17:08 PM
After updating today vsido-exit stopped working. The reboot and shutdown options to be precise. Still can logout, but after freezing when clicking on reboot or shutdown, I cannot shutdown from lightdm either.

I got no bug warnings so I went ahead with the whole thing. I cannot remember the exact packages, but it was mostly ffmpeg, and livav stuff plus vim. This is the output

$ vsido-exit
/usr/bin/vsido-exit:48: GtkWarning: Unable to locate theme engine in module_path: "murrine",
  self.window = gtk.Window()
Error org.freedesktop.ConsoleKit.Manager.NotPrivileged: Not Authorized

Aside of the initial theme warning, How should I sort out the issues? Checked the permissions of /usr/bin/vsido-exit and seem to be ok.

General Support / Vsido noob question
December 18, 2014, 11:48:59 PM
What's different in Vsido that I'm not getting the bug warnings (apt-listbugs, reportbug, debsecan) I'm getting in other distros tracking Sid? Or... what am I doing wrong?

Tint2 Support and Scripts / Tint2 and svg icons
December 10, 2014, 06:30:43 PM
I discovered the hard way that tint2 doesn't support svg icons for launchers (But does for the systray). Anyone has experience with this?

https://github.com/ixxra/tint2-svg

For just a bunch of launchers it's not too difficult to convert a few svg icons to png and modify the desktop files accordingly if you don't change your theming too often. But if you like to tweak, it's a bit of a mess.

More and more themes (not only icons) are using the svg format instead of png. They simplify building themes, make them simpler and lighter and offer more ways of manipulating and filtering the images. I wonder if the tint2 devs plan to add this support.

Where the background color for sudoed windows is set in Vsido? In other distros I found it defined in WMs autostart files but not here. I want to switch to something less disturbing/annoying than that default intense red.

Thanks in advance
#36
Is this possible? Something like this.

Mod1 Tab :NextWindow {groups} (workspace=[current])
Mod1 Mod4 Tab :NextWindow {groups} (workspace=[all])

The second line obviously doesn't work. (workspace=[all]) is wrong (that's why I'm asking), but you'll get the idea of what I'm after.

Don't know if this is the correct section to post this. Sorry if not.

Is there a way to subscribe topics and getting email notifications of replies in this forum? I cannot find where to enable those options. Thanks.

General Support / Some icon themes displaying huge
December 05, 2014, 09:27:43 AM
I knew that some GTK icon themes were having issues in Debian testing. But I've never had the problem in my systems, never heard of it in Sid and never saw them... this big! In this case it's a buuf respin. It only happens in certain apps like Synaptic (in the picture) d-feet, roxterm...

Any tips to solve it? Thanks.
