I've Got a Life / Just retired, now what?
November 21, 2014, 04:00:35 AM
I retired a couple of months ago, didn't see the need to go to a much enjoyed job, money wise. So, I spend my time with four grandchildren, all under eight to three years and smart enough to keep me on my toes. I also have three ShihTzu's which are constant companions, and are affectionately know as the "Rabid Tzu's  Posse" in the neighborhood. They bark at anything, but great security for a lock and load event. Enjoy working on the on going 1969 MGBGT, although finished, I seek improvements and will maybe pull that 4 cyl. out for a small block V8. Good winter time project for me and the car. I too enjoy fishing, mostly off of Galveston, Texas or Monterey Calif. but locally stay away from lakes and stream fishing because of the farm chemical run off. I have been to North Georgia, did some stream trout fishing. it was plentiful.  Friends tell me that the lake country in around Missouri and Arkansas is great. Golf, I'm not good at golf, the courses were a great place to party back in the sixties and early seventies, stayed out of the eye of the local authorities.  Gave up windumb about a year ago, first #! and then found VSIDO recently, spend a lot of time at my computer as well. Trying to learn Linux beyond the normal user portion, plenty of info to read and ebooks are plentiful.  That is it, for being retired. I'm also into a longtime passion for photography, the digital world has made it incredible. Here are a few of my car, maybe not everyone knows what a MGBGT is. zephyr

I have posted before, but really don't know this distro is a singular attempt or a collective effort but it has to be the most stable, and eye catching distro in the Linux world. #! and VSIDO is definitely the best of the two worlds of box's. I was able to copy paste my Oct 1 release menu into Oct 5 menu and went sailing from there. I have a couple of favorite apps, radiotray  exaile  deadbeef, be good to see them as default apps in the future release. Also appreciate the effort to not only stay on top of this distro being Sid and Exp. which must be a real chore, but dress it up a bit with some new themes and styles. I have been using dark_star as my theme, it has to be the right on appearance with the deep black of VSIDO, accented in particular not to be black sighted. I like the rune or icon as my wallpaper, haven't fiqured out what the object is of yet, but really looks great. There are a lot of broken distro's. as a noob,  I'm in the try and find one that simply don't crash after a few boots, or one that doesn't loose your apps,   VSIDO, is an absolutely correct in every aspect I have experienced, should be at the top of the list in Distrowatch. Secondly, when I have had issues or problems, you guys or the form folks where all over it in a heart beat and had me settled in with a fix or answer, not ignored as I have experienced with some distro's, that is why they are not on my computer. VSIDO cares about they're distro, I would be quite proud of it too, if it was my intellectual effort.  It handles everything I throw at it, and is workable to do what I want, looks and feel. Thanks for VSIDO. zephyr

@zephyr-thanks VastOne & jedi, appreciate the compliments, that is what I like about Debian and VSIDO in particular, creating an OS to suit your taste, likes and give it a personality. I'm just not even scratching the surface, but I look forward to this forum several times a day. zephyr

Fluxbox is very customizable, the VSIDO logo wallpaper is awesome, easy to add other styles without searching for a compatible wallpaper. Yea, be cool to add more styles to the next release, or update. By the way, being a noob myself, got a question? I use gksu thunar, simply hand feed these styles into ~/usr/share/fluxbox/styles.  Is this a no-no or correct? Gdebi only works for me on some apps.  It seems to work for me, if there is a better/correct way, appreciate any help. Thanks.  zephyr

VSIDO Discussions / Re: SpaceFM replacement

Excellent, I was doing the script suggested for the third time, went to #! and ran the code as well to see if there were any change or different script, nothing different. So, I ran a remove and reinstall and bang, it works. Thanks for the effort, and I do like this distro a lot, I do have a few IT type of friends (window type) and they all have copies. Great distro, excellent support.  (by the way, please always keep a menu editor that the user has control of-not automated) VSIDO is unique in many aspects, too many to discuss here, but all in a sophisticated way which I like #! for. Thanks again.  The best. zephyr

Thanks for the radiotray help, but still doesn't work. Not worried about it, got it on #!. I appreciate the responsive nature of helping, I like this forum and the folks who steadily help each other out, it's a tough job looking after the lost. Thanks. Let you know if I get this working. A "space" does appear near the network icon, and disappears. So, something is partially going right. Thanks. zephyr

I think there are a number of apps now not working, not VSIDO's fault, but agree on Debian's bug. I like VSIDO a lot, and SID is the most stable, what I have become to appreciate. Misery would be stuck with ubuntu and gnome3. zephyr

SpaceFM was excellent, and until a few seconds ago unaware other than it didn't work, it being not available makes a lot of sense. I use PCManFM with #!, along with Thunar. I would say it would be my choice. I added both of these to VSIDO. If anyone could help me why Radiotray doesn't work either, appreciate a yell back.
