VSIDO Discussions / An Idea
July 18, 2019, 07:48:44 AM
Hi VastOne

Just an idea and I have no idea if it is possible to do it.

Once you have done the download and installation would it be possile to add Ceni to the begining of the extra install thing that you have to make sure that you have an internet connection as for some reason or other it never connected during install, worked of the live disk though.

One of the problems that I had and manage to cure after a lot of misshaps was to run Ceni from root terminal to get the internet connection, before running the extra insall thing, trying to run ceni from fluxbox all I kept getting was  " couldn't run child process " , and no idea why that was either.

Hope this makes sense  :D

Hi folks.

I tried to install glabels yesterday evening and again this morning ( just now ) and got an error

E: /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/live failed with return 1.
update-initramfs: failed for /boot/initrd.img-4.19.0-4-amd64 with 1.
dpkg: error processing package initramfs-tools (--configure):
installed initramfs-tools package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

How do I get out of this one please. Can I reinstall it. overwrite it, purge it or what?
asking first instead of totally screwing everything up.

General Support / Just auto login. ( SOLVED. )
May 08, 2019, 11:38:56 AM
Hi all
Back again but this time with only autologin.
I have been reading all that I can find on autologin with lightdm and got nowhere. The only comment that I have found with auto login is to do with gdm3.
Can anyone tell me how to get it to work with the latest install as I can't find the info anywhere or do I have to switch to gdm3 and if so do I have to uninstall lightdm

Hi  Folks.

Well we finally managed to get the VSIDO installed and after  a lot of head scratching and resetting the cmos we can now select linux or windows. The problem now is i can't  remember how to get it to connect to the internt  or how to get linux to auto login and all my notes are unreadable  as i haven't got word as yet. Help is required please.  I have looked on site but been unable to locate anything that points me in the direction

First part solved now connected to internet. Never used Ceni before but managed to find the howto and am now back on line. now for part 2

I've Got a Life / mobile phones
February 21, 2018, 04:00:16 PM
Hi Folks

completely off topic this and i am hoping that someone can help me.

I have A Samsung Galaxy s4 mini G-i9195 that belonged to my daughter in law. she dropped it and shattered the screen which i have replaced with no problems. The problem starts with the fact that it is a boot loop, boots to Samsung logo and the starts to reboot again always at the same position, I have searched for and found various firmware that claims it will work OK and it probably will, only I cant find any firmware that contains the .pit file which apparently must match the firmware downloaded. is there anyone who can point me in the right direction or send me an email containing the  whole package. I am hoping that formatting the internal ROM will cure the problem.  It will certainly be very much appreciated.

In the meantime I shall keep searching  :)

General Support / reinstalling grub
October 11, 2016, 08:38:09 PM
Hi Folks

I'm back again with a problem.
Problem caused by that rhubarb program windows. Yep it crashed,  it was on windows 10 and for some reason or other it went down. It's own fix it would not work so I had to do a reinstall using windows 8.1 which of course screwed up grub. I have spent ages on Google reading how to recover it and have managed to get so far but now am lost. If not too much trouble I would appreciate some help.
Here is what I have managed to come up with using a live dvd running version 4.0.0.1 which is the latest one that I have.

root@vsido:/home/vsido# mount /dev/sdax /mnt
root@vsido:/home/vsido# grub-install --boot-directory=/mnt/boot /dev/sdax
Installing for i386-pc platform.
grub-install: warning: File system `ext2' doesn't support embedding.
grub-install: warning: Embedding is not possible.  GRUB can only be installed in this setup by using blocklists.  However, blocklists are UNRELIABLE and their use is discouraged..
grub-install: error: will not proceed with blocklists.
root@vsido:/home/vsido# update-grub
/usr/sbin/grub-probe: error: failed to get canonical path of `overlay'.
root@vsido:/home/vsido# grub-update
bash: grub-update: command not found
root@vsido:/home/vsido# update-grub
/usr/sbin/grub-probe: error: failed to get canonical path of `overlay'.
root@vsido:/home/vsido#

I have no idea how to go any further. Help Please

General Support / wicd
January 10, 2016, 04:07:36 PM
Hi all,

I haven't bothered with this or worried about it but it is not working on my machine and I was wondering why. I am only asking now as  I have been trying to display my download and upload speed in conky  and have been struggling with it. I have managed to actually display them now although I am not convinced that that are correct as they differ from what is shown when I us a speed test over the Internet. I have tried several commands to try and find eth0 but they all say that I don't have it but never the less I am using a wired connection to a router. I am connected via Virgin if that makes a difference. Any ideas as to why it doesn't appear to work ?

On booting up I keep getting the message ' kvm is disabled by BIOS ' .

My question is two fold really

1. Do I need it

2. If I enable it, not sure how yet, will it cause me any problems

Not sure if this is in the right place or not, please shift it if it is in the wrong place

General Support / Brother Printer mfc-j6520dw
March 20, 2015, 10:09:43 PM
Hi Folks

Bought myself the above printer after I had found and download the drivers for the printer. The problem is that it is supposed to be WIFI only I can't get it to work.
The printer itself has found and logged onto my router with no trouble but I can't get it to print so I assume that I am missing a driver for the computer or do I have to do something else. I have been on the brother site to check for a wifi driver but there doesn't appear to be one. I have tried several other sites for info but with no luck so far. Any assistance out there please as I surely need it  :'(

VSIDO Discussions / Sugessted Packages when installing
December 20, 2014, 08:02:41 PM
Hi All

Every time I install a new Program it comes up with the packages that it needs to work followed by a suggested bunch which I have no time to write down to try and install them. Is it possible for the programmers to add a a line that would allow you to select the suggestions before or after it has done the install thus allowing you to select them if you want to ? not that I have any idea what the additional packages would do to the program other the take up some drive space of course. Just wondering that's all
