and based on how uninteresting that most distros have become I believe I should have been using Vsido as my base work distro all along.
I should have had faith in the VastOne's staying power.
Still a great spin with no mind to critics or Distrowatch.
Way to go, VO and crew!

Hi Guys
Still a Debian user full time. Also like as always to work in Gentoo and Slackware.
So, as this forum loves Fluxbox and Openbox and has many users of the same I want to lay these questions at your door.

Hopefully, after much research on my part someone will see a solution where I have not.
I had installed Slackware Openbox (salix) ver 14.1 and have had these issues creep in....
That is to say that when I first installed this version has changed since the initial install 3 weeks ago.
I was able to have desktop shortcut Icon by copy paste from /usr/share/applications/ to /home/sqlpython/desktop
... I would then when copied in Spacefm have a new launcher on my desktop...
..... but no more since an update 4 days ago

I was able to edit /home/sqlpython/.config/fbpanel/default.conf (first making a copy) & then adding plugins with icons.
.... but no more since an update 4 days ago

I was able to change wallpapers with Nitrogen but now only with SpaceFm option..

Tried changing Icons, Themes, Wallpapers. Also edited fbpanel configs &/or restored defaults..
Edited gtkrc to show icons = 1 ..
Reinstalled Nitrogen and SpaceFm.. copied need icons to /usr/share/icons/(proper icon thems)

Best results at this time is to change Wallpaper with SpaceFm and to have generic terminal icons for any item added in Fbpanel config plugins..

Googled, searched forums no luck. I had used fbpanel off and on in 2009,2010 & 2011 with success.
Is it time to go back to Tint2 ???
Any Solutions ?

Tint2 Support and Scripts / fbpanel config with OpenBox
September 06, 2013, 04:40:33 PM
Sorry I know this child forum says tint2 support but..........................
This example of my fbpanel config on my SID OpenBox refers to VastOne's request on this forum to have a look see at this particular fbpanel config..
This is simply the Default with some minor changes and adds... ie I eliminatd the the Menu Button.
I believe that the Menu Button in the Panel is a redundancy with OB or Fluxbox.. JMHO

I suppose this is the correct sub forum for this topic & post.
If not please move.
  After my recent  Sid
apt-get  update && apt-get dist-upgrade
I began to have problems not before experienced with my tint2 panel.
I had done nothing to change the panel and tint2 did not Upgrade in version either.
Symptoms
1. tint2 &   very...v-e-r-y slow to appear on desktop
2. Once I switched to Desktop 2 or 3 or 4 then tint2 crashed
3. tint2 ..Even reloaded manually the issues persisted

I slowly began eliminating extra tray processes ..parcellite....voliti (VOLUME) ..battery (xfce4 PowerManager)
Nothing seemed to help
I then added tint2 to my Fluxbox DE on the same Sid install on which it ran perfectly.
This pointed away from tint2 and directly at OpenBox..
Solution: Although tint2 had been loaded at the same point by ~/.config/openbox/autostart for many months something had changed after the Update/Upgrade. The Solution was when loading an OpenBox DE to load tint2 high up in the autostart process.
Below are the top half (that is pertinent ) of the OpenBox autostart scripts Before and After.. After being the operative Solution..
Strange Days are These.. .The Doors

As you can see from the BEFORE shell that tint2 was experimented with by loading at the End, Middle and Beginning of the shell. The load at the very beginning in AFTER proved to work Best.

Networking anomalies

Just downloaded and giving a test spin on the latest VSIDO 64bit livecd.
I will give my good impressions on another thread another time.

I seem to go through this initial setup issue/protocol with my wifi 5100ANG  in all SID circumstances (including Siduction/aptosid/semplice etc)
These circumstances exist on each LiveCD boot and on the initial HD install. Once I follow the below steps on the HD install then I don't have to revisit the steps.

Here are the circumstances. I would like to know do others encounter this with other wifi cards?

While the needed iwlwifi module is loaded by VSIDO on boot and the ifconfig
brings up the wlan0 device My wifi is not actually lighted nor am I able to make a CENI connection to the router.

My solution seem to be to back out In Order the involved modules and bring down the wlan0 device. Then modprobe In Order all supporting modules and the iwlwifi module then
ifconfig wlan0 up
and Bingo I am in business and I can use CENI to connect.
Comments appreciated, My terminal steps below...

Start off by displaying the wlan0 desposition at boot to Desktop.

wlan0     Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:24:e6:00:3b:62
          BROADCAST MULTICAST  MTU:1500  Metric:1
          RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
          RX bytes:0 (0.0 B)  TX bytes:0 (0.0 B)

Next here are the pertinent modules

vsido@vsido:~$ lsmod | grep wl*
iwldvm                111887  0
mac80211              386825  1 iwldvm
iwlwifi                73248  1 iwldvm
cfg80211              366201  3 iwlwifi,mac80211,iwldvm
cpufreq_powersave      12454  0
firewire_sbp2          17956  0
firewire_core          49206  1 firewire_sbp2
crc_itu_t              12347  1 firewire_core
iTCO_wdt               12831  0
snd_hwdep              13189  1 snd_hda_codec
iTCO_vendor_support    12704  1 iTCO_wdt
wmi                    13243  0
snd                    53077  10 snd_hda_codec_realtek,snd_hwdep,snd_timer,snd_hda_codec_hdmi,snd_pcm,snd_seq,snd_hda_codec,snd_hda_intel,thinkpad_acpi,snd_seq_device
serio_raw              12940  0
scsi_mod              158517  5 sg,libata,sd_mod,sr_mod,firewire_sbp2

Now Remove the modules

:~$ sudo modprobe -r iwldvm
:~$ sudo modprobe -r mac80211
:~$ sudo modprobe -r iwlwifi
:~$ sudo ifconfig wlan0 down

Then load them back in In Order

:~$ sudo modprobe -r iwlwifi
:~$ sudo modprobe -r mac80211
:~$ sudo modprobe -r iwldvm
:~$ sudo ifconfig wlan0 up

Lights UP and on to CENI

I don't have this problem when the iwlwifi is preloaded with non-SID distros.

Introductions / Dropping in to Play!
July 18, 2013, 03:41:02 AM
 Hello People..
How did I miss VSIDO's start up in January ?
I must have been sleeping at the keyboard.
  I caught VastOne's latest VSIDO Fluxbox SCROT on #!  { Drool }
Really like using Sid and have done so for a couple of years, Together with Testing and Stable.
Sid and Testing Users, I have found, are really into their OS. This commutes into good understanding of the OS and a User base who has a Good knowledge base.

Looking forward to using VSIDO 64bit.. .DING!  Ahh! just finished downloading the ISO time to burn it!
