^ looks good - how is it on resources these days?

Feeling nastalgic? Check this out - (https://sparkylinux.org/wiki/doku.php/cde) might be able to install it from the Sparky repos, or port it over to Sid.

Pretty cool desktop environment in its day.

More with the plasma twist...

Updating...

(http://en.zimagez.com/miniature/20161211b.jpg) (http://en.zimagez.com/zimage/20161211b.php)

@PackRat, the resources used in the shot above was 720 Mb's.  My system has 32 Gb's of new RAM and a whopper of a video card as well.  I always kind of "casually brushed off" past attempts with KDE.  Getting lost in a configuration screen for how many comma's you'd like per segue...   ??? well yeah, it wasn't my cup of tea.  Times change.

Another one showing me getting this scrot ready...    8)

(http://en.zimagez.com/miniature/20161211c.jpg) (http://en.zimagez.com/zimage/20161211c.php)

No matter what you throw at VSIDO, it easily handles the load!

Fluxbox just pulls me back in...   ???
The wonderfully easy to 'eye-candy' up, tiny, WM has really stood me well for at least 4 or 5 years now.  That said, VSIDO as a distro, well what can you say other than genius!

(http://en.zimagez.com/miniature/20161214a.jpg) (http://en.zimagez.com/zimage/20161214a.php)

(http://en.zimagez.com/miniature/20161214b.jpg) (http://en.zimagez.com/zimage/20161214b.php)

Seriously wonderful VSIDO Fluxbox
maybe I'll try at getting this great little script to UL to zimagez...   8)

??? Can I reply to my reply?  ???
I think I mentioned I added KDE Plasma 5.9 to VSIDO on another install.  It is working great.  I'm chasing a couple of issues, but all in all, KDE has seriously matured and has come a long way.  They've also got really solid plans for Plasma through at least 2018 being actively dev'd.

To think that I can bling out a Fluxbox install, prettier imo, than KDE awes me.  KDE 'scrot' below...

(http://en.zimagez.com/miniature/20161211a.jpg) (http://en.zimagez.com/zimage/20161211a.php)

To be fair, I have a newer 'scrot' that is more heavily configured but man does it take a while to get it there.

(http://en.zimagez.com/miniature/shot-131216-170937.png) (http://en.zimagez.com/zimage/shot-131216-170937.php)

I just love the simplicity that is Fluxbox.  Plasma is a long way from simplicity.  The options for it are endless though and does enable you to go way farther than I have with it.  I'll keep it around and poke it with a stick every once in a while...

Let me rephrase that.  A little while later...   -14F

Just out of curiosity, how long will that thumbnail stay in the cache on imgur, anyone know...  No I haven't taken a look at the script yet in any detail, sorry, but will it upload straight to your personal imgur account?  I just came in from a little work in the garage where my outside digital thermometer reads even colder than the above scrot...  I might be a little numb at the moment.

Really is a nice script for scrots!

Yah, I been using yakuake.  Make fun...   8)  Whats even nicer is when you have several Tmux sessions running in it.  Then you realize the power of the machine!!!  Xfce4-terminal can be utilized as a drop-down terminal as well that is of equal or better quality.  That personal level of satisfaction on a Linux system...

Oh yeah, I don't have anything to do right now.  So I'm letting it out, I use yakuake.  And I love zsh.  And tmux can sometimes give me some goose-bumps...  Sorry, I know, tmi...

Just a drive by post of my new 32bit jwm image. It's a bit larger than the 64bit image, but the mem usage when running live is < 100 mb!

I'm still testing so I haven't uploaded it yet.

After I install it, it sat at about 75mb mem usage. Trying to figure out the best options for squashfs. 32bit doesn't seem to compress as far. It's about 50mb bigger than the 64bit version.

I used that latest jwm from backports

Regarding squashfs, do not waste any time on trying to figure that one out Ozi.  I have been down that same rabbit hole for 5 years now dealing with the same issue.  It is what it is and does not seem solvable, if it is even an issue

Cheers

@V-ger, I came to the same conclusion. There is no logical or reproducible way to predict a successful outcome. So I'm just uploading the image now! ;)

@PackRat would you like me to the jwmrc to the existing thread? It doesn't seem to be happy about necro-posting. :(

Kodi is the final results of what used to be XBMC... to me it is the absolute best complete media player there is... I have all my music loaded on it but I still play music through GMB

Kodi uses plugins to do everything and stream everything.. This guy from this site will give every bit of information (https://seo-michael.co.uk/) you will ever need to install plugins.. his site is like the How To of How To's. Here he has the Top Ten Addons (https://seo-michael.co.uk/top-10-add-ons/) and how to install them ... of those I only use Exodus and 1Channel and Phoenix.. but there are literally thousands of plugins you can use for media and music from all over the globe..

I can cast perfectly to my smart tv with any local media I have with a simple right click.. anything you stream from online is possible to cast depending on how the end server is setup  ...

Honestly I am stunned at how nice of a product Kodi is and highly recommend it to anyone..

^ It's the journey, not the destination.

Old school is the best school -

fvwm + xosview + xpdf -

(http://en.zimagez.com/miniature/scrot-shot-sat311483218034.jpg) (http://en.zimagez.com/zimage/scrot-shot-sat311483218034.php)

Got tired of gtk+ messing up evince, and zathura is a bit too bloaty and vi-ish for just reading the occassional pdf so went back to basics with xpdf. Couple basic settings in ~/.Xresources and it's just fine. Xosview instead of conky.
